Why are you here?

Postby Gringo Pillo » Thu Mar 24, 2011 9:22 pm

I didn´t find a tread for the second most important question of mankind (1st question is what is the meaning of life?)

Why did you end up here in Chile?
Work? Because of a Chileno or Chilena or what?

Sometimes I have been asked why I came here because it seems that many chileans do not understand why would somebody come from the States or Canada or Europe.

I came here because of my work first time in 2004. Now have been here more permanently for 5 years.
For some reason I have a gut feeling that this country has a good future ahead of it. I am not so optimistic about the future of Europe or specifically the European Union.

Moved here with my new wife & all our stuff in 2001 to start a new job, having never visited before, liked it the first day and stayed...

Because I never went through the home-sickness, love-hate after the honeymoon mode that the relocation and cultural "experts" talk of.

¡Screw the experts and psychoanalysis weones!

Chile is for you or it ain't. All else is stale air out of the mouths who think they know.

Or parts of it are. Or can be for a while. Cuiusvis hominis est errare; nullius nisi insipientis in errore perseverare.

Then you may be a hypocrite like the rest of us or it may be the $$$$ given to you by the Chilean government?

Hmmm, I've got to go back and listen to the song "It's a mistake" by that Aussie group from the 80's and reapply on a personal level.

I don't think it is hypocritical. What works at a certain stage in life might not later on. If you left kids back home and those kids have their own children then the lure of family and grandkids can be enough.

If the peso becomes so strong that your USD pension is not enough then that could be a reason to go back.

If the chilena that you met and moved here for says see ya then that could be enough.

Px always puts up the most gorgeous pics when asked why he stays. But really..... He stayed for the food.

Dude, you make soo overreaching assumptions that you might get you into trouble when replying to other posters . . . but I guess that's already happened . . .

Just an observation.

Even if current squeeze left and just the US bank account goes dry, I have fallbacks and going back to a chaotic/civil war/violence infested USA aint' one of them.

If you think I'm one of those cuico expats that inhabit this site, you are terribly wrong. Again, your assumptions and overreaching conclusions are quite erroneous.

When I said you I meant 'one' not you as in regioncentral. I do not pretend to know anything about you nor was I assuming anything about you. Give the ego a break. It was not about you..... I was talking in general terms with h regards to the mention of hypocrisy.
Never said you were a cuico anything..... jeje
