I was actually just trying to setup an account here in Chile. And yes... a chequing account is out of the question until I am a Permant resident for at least a year.

But the rep at CitiBank said no problem to open a savings account if I bring in my temporary residency and a contract for a job. Havent got the contract yet, so cannot verify this.

As well, I contacted a Canadian bank I dealt with in Canada, and they said It should not be a problem to open a savings account with them here once I am working.
