Detailed maps for hiking

Postby Gringo Pillo » Thu Mar 10, 2011 10:09 am

I decided to order a detailed map (1:50000) of Laguna Antuco from the Instituto Geografico Militar on Monday evening through their website. It arrived 3 day later, today, in the morning. I was so overwhelmed with the incredibly good service that I nearly filled my coffe cup with tears of joy.

Strongly recommend the site to anybody who needs a good map for hiking!!

Thanks for the tip. It can be hard to find good maps here. Does anyone know what the general deal is with walking off road? Inland I've seen very few signed footpaths locally (only at established tourist spots) and I'm not aware of formal access to other peoples' land, like one has in the UK. Even just identifying the owner might be difficult, though in remote enough landscape it doesn't seem to be much of a problem. I suppose I haven't done a lot of walking in recent years.

Cheers,

James.

For those living in Santiago, you can also pop into the office near metro Toesca and peruse maps freely. Glad to know they have such good service!
