HAHA.... Read this when it first came out but I knew it had to be UDI propaganda. A Kennedy? Brothels? Charlie Sheen maybe but never a Kennedy.....

This was all over the web last month, having come to formal confirmation after the FBI released the second part of the information that had been withheld, via a US FOIA resubmission. Kennedy misbehaviour was well known, if not well published in the major media.

The more interesting of the facets of the story may not be about the Kennedys, who were widely recognised as hypocritical bottom-feeding scum, but with the legal battle that was necessary to prise the story from the archives using the Freedom of Information Act, which has been considerably gutted in recent years. Ironically it was the Left that was instrumental in bringing about the FOIA in the first place. But of course it was never in their wildest imaginings that it might bring to light some of their own icons' characteristically base and vulgar behaviours.

Keeping this focused on Chile: the Chilean judiciary are rather firmly protected statutorily against any published suggestion or even spoken rumour of their notorious malfeasance, but what of other branches of CL government and public persons? Is there anything in the works approximating a FOIA in Chile?

Thank you for the vote of confidence, or local cognoscente/conocedor or whatever I was voted. But one cannot help but becoming sullied when delving into Chilean political pigsties. I frankly have not looked into that level of political evolution in the country. At present the more pressing issues involve tiras, niples, and bujes for an irrigation extension. When it comes to applying the fertiliser, perhaps then I will be reminded to look up the political questions. In the meantime, those with the appropriate language skills can work their google magic: what are the rights of CL residents to request data from post-prosecution government records?

Exists in theory. In practice? You'd be better off asking admin whose wife is a lawyer.
I know a bit cause you know I am a left wing radical (who needs to be dealt with I imagine) but the Ley de Acceso a la Información Pública came into effect in '09 I think. I am not a lawyer though. I only play one on TV.

I know carnada when I see it. OK. Since you brought it up. Chileans of that age were aware, many foreros perhaps less so.

The end of the Soviet union brought many records of that era to light, in ways that the US FOIA has also partially allowed a closer view of that period of history:


[KGB case officer Svyatoslav Kuznetsov] arranged his regular meetings with Allende through the President’s personal secretary, Miria Contreras Bell, known as La Payita and codenamed Marta by the KGB. La Payita was Allende’s favourite mistress during his presidency. Kuznetsov reported that Allende was spending “a great deal of time” in her company.

Hmm, I thought it was more telling that the article said that Kennedy wanted to meet angry young men on his travels. Was the brothel just a cover?

According to Uribe's account, during Robert Kennedy's earlier (1963) visit to Santiago, he had been trying to convince an audience that the USG did not meddle in internal affairs of other nations on behalf of US investors there in part because such companies were small and of no significance within the US. Some of the audience members responded that companies such as Anaconda and Kennecott, operating in Chile, were in fact quite large and significant on the US political and economic scenes.
