Have you looked at local prices on new laptops?

Not much more expensive than what you're quoting. And with a guarantee.
People tend not to buy used laptops are they are aware of battery replacement problems so you would have to provide some sort of warranty.

Wow! Absolutely wonderful respones you all! Thank you.

I will show my partner this thread and go from there. From the looks of it, though computers are indeed more expensive in Chile, it doesn't look profitable enough to try and export them from here to Chile. Too much hassle.

Not when compared with other ideas like the one mentioned here about selling cheap items with a big markup.

In general the idea definitely involved buying pre-configured and working used laptops from a wholesaler vs going on craigslist and buying them one at a time. But if the selection of laptop types in Chile is quite good such that one can get a reasonable deal on a laptop desired...there is no sense paying to import one from the U.S.

Thanks again everyone!

Hmm...don't know anything about 101 Jobs in Chile. Sounds interesting.

As for the snow shoveler...hmm...well...I used to do a lot of that up in Canada until I decided to up and get me out of there :). I did some snow shoveling for pay up there too for a while when I couldn't wash windows.

It's kinda nice having a name like Carlos sometimes. It's like John as in John Smith in English. Carlos is my real name but there are thousands of us out there.

I don't think its a bad idea.... I think used cell phone might work as well because there is a higher demand for them and its not so expensive and costly to admin. The youth want the latest stuff, but there is usually a 6 month delay in the roll out of new cell phones in Chile compared to USA and or Europe giving one a 6 month cushion before the demand drops on the back end. what is used abroad is still new in Chile..giving more profit. Notebooks seem to not have so much of a price difference but I could be wrong with the IPADs and new types coming out. keep me informed :)
