You also need to consider the fact, that you probably will not be eligible for credit as you have no credit history in Chile, no income tax history and no Chilean employer. I doubt you will be allowed to lease a new car, but I could be wrong.
I managed to buy a used car with 30% downpayment and 24 month loan after receiving my RUT / RUN, in a similar situation. I think that is the most realistic (and economically feasible) option - unless you of course have sufficient cash to pay it in full.
For longer term rentals, I would recommend econorent. New cars and reasonable (for Chile) prices for monthly rentals.

You might be right there. I presume they would ask for a very large down payment since people finance the cars through the dealer and not through a "normal" bank.
