Marrying and moving to Chile:)

Postby Kjetilgordon » Fri Oct 22, 2010 4:14 pm

Hello all,I am new to this so bear with me:)))....I am planning to move to Santiago,Chile soon and marry my wonderful and amazing girlfriend who is of course Chilean, all beautiful women are chileans, aren't they??;))...anyways,my question is,how do we proceed with the move and all??there is SO much to consider and I am finding myself a little overwhelmed as to where to "attack" this from....should we get the civil wedding done when I am there visiting and then as a result be able to live and work in Chile??or should I obtain a living and work permit first and THEN move to Chile and marry?I am so confused:D....I am a Norwegian by the way and met my beautiful future wife on a vacation to Chile and we will be getting married and spend the rest of our lives in Chile together:)....but I am just wondering what would be the "easiest" way to to get around all this, and I know very well there isn'y anything such as anything being "easy" when dealing with public-offices and such:)....but like I said, should we just get the civil marriage done when I am there soon and that way I will automaticaly be able to live in Santiago with her or should I apply for a visa first??,if there is even such a thing:)...and what will I need to bring with in forms of papers and such for us to be able to get the civil marriage?...I am also divorced and I know there might be some problems with us getting married in a catholic church cause of that but at the moment that is not our main concern, for now we just want to figure out how to go about this and what we should do,what is the best and easiest way to get married and be able to live together in Chile as legal Husband and wife:)...and we will sort the church matter after that:)...hope someone can help us with our questions here:)
Thank you in advance!...Kjetil:)

Uff, du er gal, en sprø Norsk.

You are not well. I would recommend professional counseling, new eyeglasses, and a short and unaccompanied visit to Italy.

Yea, we got two in my family. My brother and I both are married to Chilean women and are very happy with them.

Very big international demand. Slightly behind Chilean wine, and ahead of copper.

Welcome to the forum Kjetil.

I am intrigued by your situation and questions, however am unfortunately unable to answer your them however I would be interested to find out how it goes for you and have some quesitons of my own for you if you do not mind.

You are planning to move over to Chile however have you organised work over there as yet? If not, what type of work are you considering applying for? And finally, do you speak fluent Spanish?

Just interested to see what you are planning on doing over there because at some point in the distant future, my girlfirend and I should be considering moving out to Chile and would like to see how easy/difficult you found it :)

Thank you Tupley and welcome yourself:))
well,my girlfriend has already a business of her own,she is an interior designer and she restores old sculptures and such as well...and she also runs a wedding-flowers business:)..yeah,she's good at multi-tasking:D.....but anyways,we plan on running these businesses together of course and I will be doing odds and ends with like logistics and such and I am also thinking of getting into the transporting kids to private schools in Santiago...I don't know if you've been to Chile but there is a market for driving kids to school there, you apply for a permit to do so and I am thinking of doing this on the side,so to say:)....but I will keep you informed with how it all goes,of course:).....and as for the spanish,no I am not fluent by any means,yet:)..I have already taken a class here in Norway after me and my girlfriend decided to get married and live in Chile, that was just to learn the basics tho and I def need some more learning:)..but the best way to learn a language,I have figured out,is just get a knowledge of the basics and then travel to the country where it's spoken and pick up as you go along...has worked for me in the past very well:)...and my girlfriend will help me of course, teach me more:)
so where did you and your girlfriend meet?and is she living in Chile or where you are?:)...just curious:)
