Re: Physical presence required for various pre-marriage steps?!

In my case we went to request a date in mid-January and the earliest available was in early March. We both went to set the appointment and they did want to talk to me to be sure I understood Spanish. All they ever asked as far as witnesses was that I bring in a copy of their ID cards at least a week before the ceremony so they could draw up the paperwork. They only showed up in person on the actual day. This was last year at the Civil Registry in La Reina.

reminds me of back in the 70s when my sister went to Las Vegas as a pillion rider on her boyfriend's motorbike, on the Sunday on the way home to LA they noticed a courthouse open and checked with the sheriff about getting married there when the NZ family arrived. He said "sign here and I'll rubber stamp the witness details" so the family missed the wedding (so did the witnesses). My sister's wedding outfit was jandals and a daggy old pair of jeans.

Correct me if I am wrong, but if you don't have permanencia definitiva, don't you have to get it done in the X registry in Santiago?

And if you're chilean marrying a foreigner, doesn't the foreigner have to get consular details, previous to the application at SREI?

And if you have foreigners as testigos (witnesses), won't there be a problem if you decide to break up later?
