Divorce and Permanent Residency

Postby amanda.santiago3 » Tue Sep 14, 2010 10:23 am

If a non Chilean marries a Chilean citizen and becomes a permanent legal resident of Chile, does the non Chilean lose their residency status if the couple divorces? Can someone please share info about this? How long does a couple have to be married before they can divorce in Chile? How long is marriage required in order for a non Chilean to obtain permanent legal residency? Thanks

Yes admin is the correct source but the answers to such questions would also be helpful to many on this board.

So kicking this up to the top in hopes admin answers publicly.

For the first, AFAIK the answer would be no.

For the second, AFAIK depends on time length of "documented" separation (has to be initiated with the former partner vs. initiated by one side).

The third, AFAIK like the other TRVs to PR, 1 year of TRV then apply for PR till it successfully comes through.

All above should be verified by a competent lawyer.

If you are considering getting married just to get legal residency, you don't have to do that. Residency is not hard to obtain.
