Hello All!

I am a UK citizen and my girlfriend is Chilean. We have been discussing moving to live in Chile in the (distant) future once my level of Spanish (currently... well very poor) is high enough and of a technical nature. She is hopefully going to help me learn Chilean Spanish which will hopefully help integration into Chile when it comes to moving!

My reason for posting is a number of things, the main thing however i guess is to understand the possibilities for me obtaining some type of employment and what i can expect. So a bit about me!

I hold a BEng with Honours in Electronic Systems Engineering from the University of East Anglia and since leaving have mainly worked in the Telecoms arena. I have done 2.5 years of business to business sales, followed by 1.5 years of technical support and team management, 8 months of DB analysis and customer support, and am currently working as a systems analyst for the Telecoms department in a leading hospital for the last year. I am planning to move in to management and project management in the future for which I am currently getting a good grounding in whilst still keeping myself entrenched technically, and would probably be looking for work of this nature when moving.

Do qualifications such as Prince 2 and ITIL have any affect on employment and salary in Chile? Would it be easier to obtain work from a multi-national company in areas of this type due to being a foreign national?

No doubt the first of many questions and I would really appreciate any information that anyone can provide, and I look forward to hearing from you!

It's been about 6 years since I was there, and I didn't notice it then. To be honest, me and my girlfriend have only been together around a year so I didn't even know what it was until I met her! I'm really looking forward to our month long trip over christmas to meet her family so i can learn more about the culture and place!!

Thanks for the welcome too!

Hello!

Thanks for the welcomes and also the advice, I will be sure to bring everything with me when moving over, maybe even the kitchen sink depending on if the flight would let me take it on it! As I said, long time in the future but am definitely looking forward to getting to see Chile and enjoying learning all about the culture which my month long trip starting in December will hopefully allow me to start doing!

I'm visiting my girlfriend this weekend in Madrid and I know it is the Chilean independence celebrations, anything I should be aware of?? Thanks for the help!
