Collapsed Mine

Postby oregon woodsmoke » Mon Aug 23, 2010 1:33 pm

It made it to the news all the way up here in Oregon about the miners found alive 30 days after the mine shaft collapsed. The report said it will take months to dig them out.

Lots of prayers and positive energy being directed towards Chile right now.

Actually 16-17 days.

But definitely a miracle that ALL 33 are alive.

The year of Chile, megaquake and tsunami, new President and government, World Cup qualification and then advancement past the first round, the upcoming bicentennial celebration next month and now the miracle survival of the miners.

Great news for the families and an amazing story on so many levels. Watching the genuine emotion of Piñera on that video clip is inspiring, and it contrasts sharply with the douchebag, tele-prompter reading, weasel we have as our "leader" up here.

You are far, far, far too kind with those words about the weasel - exponentially so...
g~j would present a far more damning description - but it must be for another thread

But g~j are also immensely pleased with the breaking news about these miners...
If truth be told, g~ worked for about a decade (80's) - training~coaching mine rescue teams.
From this personal perspective - their survival and ultimate rescue is phenomenal... :D :D :D

...vacationing douchebag izmierdoso comemierda weasel ... pero me desvío del tema....

News of the survival of the miners seems to have reached the corners of the globe, and there is genuine sympathy and well-wishing. But it's going to be a long 3-4 months to wait out the rescue. I would hope those miners are getting paid overtime....

My wife told me earlier today that Farkas gave $5.000.000 to each of the families of the trapped miners.

Yep and a job too if they no longer have the urge to go underground.

I think that figure was meant to be understood as Chilean pesos and not as some other currency. The $ sign can be ambiguous.

La Tercera also indicated a fund with the goal of having other chileno persons and businesses contribute, to be able to give each trapped miner the equivalent of one million US dollars: "El gol mío es llegar a un millón de dólares por cada uno de estos trabajadores", indicó el empresario minero, dueño de Compañía Minera Santa Fe y Santa Bárbara.

Such largess may make the 3-4 month underground wait for rescue a little easier to take.

Eh? They'll never be able to move any ore with a mob of people around the mineshaft waiting to go and get stuck.
