Libreta de Matrimonio

Postby lizziet » Mon Aug 09, 2010 10:21 am

Hi, I hope someone can answer my question please! I am British and I married my Chilean husband in Chile last month. We are applying for his UK visa and I need to know if the Libreta de Matrimonio is actually the marriage certificate. The reason I am panicking is that I just read that the US Embassy does not accept the libreta de matrimonio, only the marriage certificate - I thought the libreta de matr. WAS the marriage certificate!!

AFAIK, NO. The Libreta is an extra which you pay a little more for.

The more experienced will soon chime in.

As far as I know its not the same thing. It is easy to get a marriage certificate however - just go to your local registro civil, stand in line for a couple of hours, pay the 800-ish peso fee, and they'll print one out for you on the spot.
