Moving to Chile, Atacama Desert

Postby Countryless » Tue Aug 03, 2010 7:40 pm

I'm interested in moving to Chile and buying land in the Atacama Desert. How much does land usually cost in the Atacama Desert region?

I am a sovereign entity (man without a country) currently living in North America. Because I have no country, I also have no passport or other such papers. Is it easy to immigrate into Chile without documentation of any sort?

WTF is code for .... where were you born and how did you come to not have some sort of citizenship?

Chances are, you'll need some sort of documentation to travel to Chile.

And what sort of interest might you have in a desert like the Atacama? Pitching a tent in one of the driest parts of the earth?

I was born in Canada, but rejected citizenship to that country once I found what it entailed.

Traveling won't be much of a problem; though it may take a while if I travel predominantly on foot. I'm more concerned about what I may need in order for the Chilean government to see fit for me to live in Chile and buy land there.

I'm interested in arid desert environments, and want to look into ways of harvesting and storing water in a low-moisture environment for farming purposes.

Not really! Are they aggressive, or highly venomous?

Not really... they are quite docile
They are a favorite species for pets.
g~j have been looking for a while - no luck. :(

Otherwise... you may certainly walk across land borders without documents...
But you risk incarceration, of course.

And to buy some land...
You must either carry large amounts of cash..
(or maybe just a couple pounds of GOLD)
But then, you risk bandits...
There are many bandits who might rob you between "here" and "there"
Be careful...

Not me! Where there is a will there is a way, when it comes to such things as travel and self-defense. I just don't want any legal difficulties once I'm there.

Not possible without documents, and they will think you obviously don’t belong if you rejected (how does one do that????) Canadian citizenship, they will think you a nutter and send you packing as you have no documents.

Oh, non mineral producing areas in to north are very cheap by my standards, the water from wind has been tried with various degrees of success. But as you don’t have documents you won’t be able to own any land.
It's all about the wine.

Countryless, my anarchist soul admire you but regret to say that it will be impossible to enter Chile without a passport in order. This is one of the most legalist places in South America and even for people with all papers is not easy to obtain a visa. If you enter Chile undoccumented (probably it is not hard because our long border) you must stay very quiet in the country because as long as you call the attention of authorities you surely will be put in the border. Good Luck anyway.
