Re: My Mum passed away during the sale of her property

You are not going to be able to do this on the internet (in Chile or anywhere else in the World). You need to find a lawyer. We do handle international inheritance. You can reach us at the numbers at the bottom of the web site or my post. Zandra Valenzuela is the attorney you want to ask for, and she can answer your questions. I would recommend next week, as she is a bit busy this week.

As to the how to register bit, that depends. If you were born in Chile than you are likly on the radar screen, but you need to be following the inheritance proceedings anyway (best to stay on top of those sorts of things anyway).

I was born in Chile.
I found out that my Mum gave power of attorney to one of her cousins and the lawyer involved in the sale is the husband of another of her cousins.
Does this make things more complicated or easier?
My Dad is going to ring Mum's cousin today to see where the sale is at.
What can I do to help with getting this thing sorted out?
Do you know if the Australian legal system will also need be involved in this?
Another problem that we have is that Mum sold the property for such a low price that it isn't worth us paying for trips to Chile and to pay for lawyers.
We are only looking at receiving a total of about $10k-15k Australian dollars.
I am sure that a property in the centre of Valparaiso is worth more than that.
The other thing that Mum did was she opened up a bank account in my name for the money to go into.
She organised for the proceeds of the sale of the property to go into my bank account.
Is that going to help or hinder the situation?
