Re: Applying to residencia definitiva. Now what?

We have seen a sudden improvement in the speeds of many temp residency applications. About 30 days in some cases, older applications seem to be still hanging, but more recent ones seem to be getting processed fast. Still that can change.

Update... Last time I went to check on my Visa Permanente Definitiva docs in process was the first of June (since my last ones were going to expire June 6). They told me that my visa was almost approved, which I did not believe... anyway they gave me the standard 3 month extension... I was under the assumption that when my visa was approved, they would send me a mail telling me to return to pick it up.

Well today I went to renew my extension docs one more time and I found out that my visa permanente was actually approved June 29, or almost 3 months after I applied!

So it is official, I have my Visa Permanente Definitiva in hand...

Sign me... still a :alien: but add

Cheers!

I have the papers in my hand for the "Solicitud de permanencia definitiva",

My subject to contract visa expires in novemeber, i have a couple of questions...

1. this all seems very straight forward, do i need a lawyer or should i use one to make it extra simple or would that make it harder?

2. From reading old posts everyone seems to send the form in 6 months ahead, i have read on the form i should send it in within the last 90 days of my subject to contract? advise? now, or within the last 90 days?

3. any example letters of why you want to live in chile would be great, im not great at creative writing :)

Thanks

My letter said things about cultural interchange, learning Spanish, getting to know the people, something like that. At the place I was working at the time they told me to write that I liked chilenos and though empanadas were tasty. So I think it doesn't much matter what you write.

No on the lawyer, unless there's something weird about your application. I just remembered that this time next year I'm going to have to reapply, to get the second version of this. Wonder what that's like! Anyone have experience with that? I also need to look through the archives to see if anyone has tips re: passports. I'm under the impression that once I have five years of residencia definitiva something magic happens. I wonder what it is!
