Poor Iggy! Customs is the reason I did not bring my English Bulldog, Frank the Tank, with me to Chile. Oh, the 12 hour plane flight also. He is better off living with my parents. 8)

Same reason I had to leave my Doberman Pincher, Zeus the Goose, with my parents in the States. Frank the Tank & Zeus the Goose! Thats funny! Anybody else have rhyming pet names?

Dogs and cats are easy. Easier than importing kids most of the time. Just make sure you have the health certificates. Exotic pets get complicated. Especially rodent related pets. There are quarantine issues, and the quarantine companies are not cheap.

¡Welcome to Chile! Now you know about the forumites similar ADUANAS / SAG / SEREMI gripes firsthand.

I'm not a betting man but I'd say Iggy might be headed to the Aduanas incinerator in 90 days. I do know that most stuff held at SCL remains there until cleared or destroyed. You pay a storage fee if you do get it back. If not cleared, the only way to get it back would be to leave the country from SCL before cremation day. Or maybe for the really organic stuff, they destroy it immediately if voted down by their "experts".

Any others with direct experience in similar situations please chime in with your personalized observations.

Brought the family Labrador when we moved from England, whilst we had to get a number of papers sorted in the UK (including getting them stamped by govt office in Milton Keynes) the rest was easy. home quarantine when we arrived for 21 days, and a rabies jab....sorted!!.......
