Looking for work and business opportunities in Chile.....

Postby max » Thu Jul 01, 2010 10:02 am

Recently relocated to Santiago from USA. I am looking for business and work opportunities. Also would like to meet professional people for networking. I spent 4 yrs in the US Army, college educated, and spent 15 yrs working for a major pharmaceutical company in the US, Pfizer Inc. Can anybody provide some useful information or leads???

I often see pharmaceutical companies advertising sales positions on the major job sites. Not sure if you speak Spanish or not, but you will need to speak Spanish for these positions. Something you might want to look into.

With 3 lines background info it is pretty difficult to provide any useful information. What exactly are you looking for? DO you speak any english etc etc.
But anyhow, good luck!

Work you can probably find...but "business opportunities"...I can't advise strongly enough against that. This is a great place to live, even a great place to work, but a horrible place to do business. Banks are slow and their hours are absurd, red tape and bureaucracy are abundant, people are 2 hours late for everything, you'll always "get your money tomorrow", people never return phone calls, you have to spend the first half hour of every meeting talking about your life story and the other person's family before you even begin discussing business, people talk a lot and very rarely back it up or do what they said they would do, and boldfaced lying as a business strategy falls someplace between polite and expected.

Come on down here and work and enjoy the country because it's great for that, but if you try to set up a business here...well...you've been warned ;)

Talk to Pfizer, maybe they have something you can rep for them in Chile, but they have a big presence in Chile. Do you speak Spanish, you must to work in the field as a rep. Do you have contacts with companies that have products that might do well in Chile, research this deeply before you jump into it. Why did you drop into Chile in the first place?
It's all about the wine.
