Postby murf » Sat Jun 12, 2010 5:26 pm

I'm surprised nobody has started one yet.
Chile V Honduras on June 16
Any thoughts or predictions??

USA and England just drew 1:1

I am watching. Would have been nice to see a win for the US, but a tie is better than many expected.

As far as Chile, there seems to be a lot of overconfidence. Honduras may not be as easy as a lot of people think and Switzerland is looking pretty strong.Time will tell . . .

Chile to win 2-1 is my prediction. They're playing in my home town and all my friends who are going are going in red!

Today is all about the Aussies though, we're watching it on the big screen at Hoyt's at Parque Arauco. GO SOCCEROOOOOOOOS!

I'm just glad that the tournament is being held in a decent time zone for us in the Americas, so we don't have to be awake at 1 or 2am to watch the games live. The downside is that I am taking a stiff ribbing for putting my life on hold for the month of June every four years like all good soccer junkies (scrjnki).

But, I'm in good company. My Mexican employees all seemed to be sick en masse last Friday. My mother in law is Spanish and rabidly loyal to the Spanish Team. My father in law is Yugoslavian and torn between Serbia and Slovakia.

That new ball is doing very strange things in flight. May have contributed to the USA draw (along with the fundamental goalkeeping error).

I have been able to watch all games. I am retired, so I can do it. The chilean team seems to have a good option to advance to the "octavos de final". Let's not take Honduras too lightly. I would like to see Chile winning this game. The Swiss are not going to be easy to defeat, so a tie coul d be a possibility. No chance against Spain. That would give us 4 points. Spain should be able to defeat Honduras and Chile,..a tie with the Swiss?. That would give Spain 7 points. If the Swiss defeat Honduras, tie with Spain, and tie with Chile...s....t they will have 5 points, so the chileans could be out. Oh well, I'll leave it there,,,you guys can take over. Saludos

If this were a rugby thread I'd be more enthused but here's my initial take based on the 20 mins of play I saw this am.
Chile deserved the win, 1-0 was about right.
When/if Chile meet decent teams such as Brazil, Argentina, Holland or Germany, the vuvuzelas will get really quiet and we'll be watching them disembarking at SCL ....PDQ JMO

Thanks Piggy, back in your box now. :P

Speaking of rugby, who's your team? I can or course speak with authority and great arrogance on rugby since I hail from teh land of the world champions. :alien:

I just got out of hospital yesterday (bouncing baby boy 3.6kg's) and watched the game from bed with my two boys (the big one (my husband) shouted so loud when Chile scored that the baby nearly bounced out of my arms!). The whole hospital erupted in cheers when the goal was scored and when the final whistle blew. I could see the car park and the shout was so loud that the security guards came running towards the building!

All morning after the game we could hear hooting and saw cars driving by with flags out. The atmosphere was great! Most of the nurses had Chilean flags painted on their cheeks, it was very nice to see the spirit.

This morning, I'm watching Bafana Bafana (although I'm painfully aware of their chances) to see if they can take advantage of the French debacle and then to see if the Aussie can claw back true Aussie spirit.

PS
Shout out to the All Whites, great effort!!!
