Re: Correos Chile ~ Seguimiento on Line ~ Tracking

Registered mail involves tracking, and recording it and tracking it involves time. So, why bother?

They need more time for the "registered" mail delivery?

That's fine, when my tracking history is *recorded*, like this one (that was sent by "registered" about 2 months ago).

The correos part:

http://courier.correos.cl/Seguimiento/aspx/Default.aspx

Ingreso ~ ADMITIDO PLANTA ~ TEMUCO ~ DAY # 1
Clasificación ~ CLASIFICADO PLANTA ~ TEMUCO ~ DAY # 1
Distribución ~ RECEPCIONADO EN CENTRO TECNOLOGICO POSTAL ~ DAY # 2

The usps part:

http://www.usps.com/shipping/trackandconfirm.htm

Origin Post is Preparing Shipment CHILE ~ DAY # 2
Inbound International Arrival ~ ISC MIAMI FL (USPS) ~ DAY # 5
Arrival at Unit ~ COOLTOWN AK 99999 ~ DAY # 13
Delivered ~ COOLTOWN AK 99999 ~ DAY # 13

But, if they (correos/usps) have no records at all?.. And that is for 17 days?.. That's what I mean..

:)

1500 ml ~ 120 ~ Cabernet Sauvignon / Carmenere ~ 2009 ~ Gran Edicion.. 1850 pesos..

Fingers crossed, check on the way to CANADA. Sprayed laca over the addresses so liquids can't wash them off and sealed the envelope with clear packing tape. 430 pesos poorer, I trudged over to the supermercado and found they still had plenty of Santa Carolina Una Estrella for 1475. TIme to unwind and cook.

The letter arrived on (or maybe before) the 16th day from the date it was sent. Correos.cl website has no records of the tracking #, and the usps website has no records of it, as of now.

I hear you when you can't track something you paid to track.

I just arrived back in Canada from my summer in Chile and sent a package off to my son in Santiago with some stuff he wanted, it went surface mail due to weight (over 2kg from Canada can’t be sent by Air Mail) with a 4-6 week delivery time frame, I put tracking on it with Canada Post because I suspect these go by air (when it available) not surface some take 3 weeks some the 6 weeks, I was interested to see it left Canada on the 14th May and arrived foreign destination on the 17th May (same year) that’s one FAST BOAT or TRUCK, well we know it doesn’t go by truck.

I don't understand what's up with the mail. My mom sent me two envelopes from Canada - one was a package containing some items, the other simply had a couple documents. The envelope with the documents was sent a week and a half before the package. The package got here first (about two weeks later via Airmail, no tracking). The envelope with the documents has yet to arrive, and it was sent about 6-8 weeks ago. I hate that I can't trust the mail here.

Regarding the USA to Chile system, I've pinpointed the delay to the USA postal system. I've analyzed customs and postal stamps and the tracking trail when there is tracking and in all cases it was under US Postal Service custody while I was anxiously waiting. In my experience, once airmail hits SCL, it is cleared that day by Customs and a working day later gets to the coast. When I lived in Santiago, many times it got delivered the same day.

When there is tracking, a parcel usually leaves the US in three days. Then there is a long silent gap till it arrives in Santiago. It's like your mail does not go direct or near direct but stops in every port of call on the way down. I had one package which from analyzing the stamps was apparently temporarily "lost" somewhere in the Caribe.

Regarding the USA to Chile system, based on stamps on my "regular" 1st class mail from the U.S. to Chile -- it arrives in 8 to 13 calendar days currently.

Those who know, or maybe have friends who do, how exactly these "registered mail" tracking numbers are entered into the computer system (U.S. or Chile or Canada or elsewhere) -- kindly post. If the letter is "machinable" (USPS term), or a small business envelope, or large envelope, or a small package, or non-standard envelopes -- how the tracking number is entered: manually, scanned, or how else? Why some of these numbers are not entered at all?

I have asked someone, and according to what I understand (though I'm not sure if rightly), at the Correos they are *not* required to input your tracking number into their system for "registered" items (RR.........CL) that would go *out of Chile*, but they *must* input it for "express" ones (EE.........CL). That doesn't explain why my 2 "registered" letters (RR.........CL) were recorded properly?.. If anyone knows the real truth about the Chilean tracking number recording procedure -- please, don't keep it a secret.. :)
