dang it, I was going to post that first.

That is more or less the coordinates of the underwater volcano (only about 1 km under the water) near Isla Mocha.

I was outside and heard it coming in a, 'what the hell is that sound' sort of way about 20 seconds before it hit. Good jolt to the house, lasted about 20 seconds. My cat nearly ran me over on her way out the door.

Funny, my cat use to take off for 12 hours for any quake over a 6.0. Now she only leaves for about an hour. Last week there was a little 5.4, and she got really scarred and insisted she wanted to get out of the house. I opened the window, she looked at it for a few seconds, then she decided she better check if her food bowl was o.k. instead. So, even my cat is not really taking them all that seriously anymore.

No, I would definitely say it was one of the strongest we have had since the big one. The whole house took a serious jolt to the SW, with lots of general vibrations before and after. Kind of strange was that it seemed to come from the North East (the mountains). It was kind of like a wave passed us inland, and bounced off the mountains and came back at us. Just the general sensation I had based on the directions the sound and movement came from.

Real interesting the recent upswing in Ricter scale of temblores from Valpo-O'Higgins to Bio-Bio. Let's hope the 7.8 some seismo experts say is still in the cards proves false.

BTW, I still find it interesting that there always seems to be small quakes in the PR-VI-Haiti region before a temblor in our neck.

Finally getting the minor damage in the apartment repaired via my landlord. :|

I'm normally asleep at this time of night, but I wanted to watch a movie. Glad you seem to be ok. If earthquakes keep happening down there, my wife is going to have second thoughts about moving! Stop it, please?

I was outside at the time and I didn't even notice it at all. My daughter was outside too and when she was going into the house she noticed the tail end of it. My wife and the other children in the house really noticed it. The boy who cleans my furnace was on the roof about an hour or so earlier and he said that he hopes that there isn't another earthquake while he is up there. :)

Wow! Didn't know there was an underwater volcano near Isla Mocha! That is not a nice thing for that special little island. The island rose 2 meters during the recent quake. The fault there is a subduction zone. So the other plate is pushing under (which is why the island rose). Volcanoes do occur along subductions zones because the newly subducted earth tends to melt and bubble up as a volcano. So it wouldn't be to surprising to have some magma flows after a major subduction event.

The sound coming before the earthquake is a bit weird. I've been in a lot of earthquakes in California and there was no sound prior. That also sounds like magma flowing. Weird stuff out and about.

You need to move on down to Frutillar before the shifting earth gets any closer!

Nice place... but...
If the shifting earth follows you to Fruitillar...
As such things do, in Chile...
You will probably end up in Lago Llanquihue
Can you swim
