Looks like you haven't read the forum rules about linking. I guess you are probably a spammer.

A young Chilean student asked my opinion today.. his father bought an I-phone in Chile, it was unlocked already.. he downloaded an app (pirated, I guess) and got a message apparently warning him about piracy and telling him go to the Apple store to buy it instead... he is asking what happens in this situation... I offered my advice that piracy is wrong, of course... but is there more "out there" that I should know?

Here is the message that appeared on his father's phone after downloading the app:

"We received a report that you recently downloaded software illegally and installed it on your device.

We have recorded information necessary to identify you, your location and your device. Piracy is a Crime.

The unauthorized duplication of software constitutes copyright infringement regardless of whether it is done for sale, for free distribution, or for the copier's own use. There are significant financial and legal penalties for software piracy. Illegal distribution and use of software can result in prison terms as well as fines. In civil litigation against those who illegally distribute software, Developers can obtain the higher of its lost profits, the infringer's profits, or statutory damages per product infringed, plus attorney fees. But the costs are often not measured in dollars alone. When organizations are legally prosecuted for software piracy, they also suffer significant damage to their reputation.

Here is the link to purchase the software legally from the App Store:

You are encouraged to do so.

10 bucks for that thing when there are better and cheaper ones like Accuweather? Come on.
I have paid for apps, torrented others, same for movies and music... I don't really care about the moral implications. I'm just a student, I don't have a steady income, but I do pay for stuff that proves its usefulness or entertainment value (as with some iphone apps and software that are keepers for me).

I am also moving to Santiago in two or three months, and I had some questions about electronics. I am trying to determine what items I should bring with me and what items I should get rid of or leave behind in Canada.

I will be bringing my netbook, tablet and desktop computer. I believe all I need for these is the appropriate plug adapter.

I am considering bringing my Onkyo A/V receiver, as it is less than a year old. I spoke to Onkyo and they tell me I can use it in Chile, but I will need a transformer. Does anybody have any suggestions as to where I could purchase a transformer? Is it better to purchase it in Canada or in Chile?

I was also looking at VTR's website to see what the various options are for internet and TV. It looks like their HD digital box "D-Box-Pro" looks identical to the Motorola DCX3400 I have now. Is there any advantage to bring mine to Chile with me? Or will VTR behave like many cable companies I know and refuse to hook up mine to their system? I guess there may also be differences with the firmware, etc.

I believe my new employer will be providing me with a mobile phone, so i will wait and see what happens with that. In general, is it better to buy an unlocked phone in Canada or to just get one from Entel or whomever while in Chile. What speeds are available on mobile networks in Chile? 3G? 4G? LTE?
