interesting stuff, I hadn't heard any mention of these things and usually our Chilean friends will bring this stuff up... the bus story sounds like the great opening scene to a movie or novel :)

Cool.

I love when people take the time to post material in this sort of fashion.

There is a theory I seen some time ago regarding "balls of light" seen near or around faults and earthquake prone areas regarding the static EM discharges generated by the release of energy from the earth moving. Can not recall the name of them right off hand, but have been associated with earthquakes around Mexico and the Southwest U.S. for hundreds of years. The tribes have very old stories that link the earth's movement and the lights appearing in the dessert.

Hello Charles, I believe you may be referring to the Piezoelectric Effect. This occurs when a mechanical force is applied to certain crystals which in turn produce voltage. For many years this reaction was thought to be UFO's, ooops, ovni's in the mountains of Arizona. If I may guess what the force required may be, I have postulated it could simply be rocks moving against each other during temperature differential much the way it can make rocks crack. Tectonic activity could certainly generate the force required and no doubt other factors I know nothing about.

I think you're attributing a little bit too much to the piezo-electric effect, which is fairly well understood in engineering. I used to work for a company which bought piezo-electric actuator technology from an East-German company shortly after the fall of the Iron Curtain, the effects of piezo-electricity were certainly not viable for any useful purpose per se, but needed to be amplified to be of any use. The application at the time was in coal mining, as you say "rocks moving against each other" but not on the scale you propose.

I agree with the idea that the UFO's whitnessed were very unlikley the result of piezoelectric effect,I was just responding to anothers speculation.

Buenos Dias, I have been a student of the UFO topic for over 30 years. I do not claim to have answers, only questions and a lot of great connections with science
types in the states, some in England and one in Germany. My wife and I will be in Chile for 3 weeks beginning the 4th of October. We will be near Frutillar to
meet with Charles for assistance in relocation and what goes with that. If anyone would be kind enough to direct us to any UFO groups or people interested in this subject it would be of great interest to us and we have information to share.
Muchas Gracias,
Gregorio

Chances are, if one would Google either Ruta Ufológica de San Clemente, this is in the VII Región del Maule, or OVNI/UFO watching groups in the IV Región (around the Elqui valley) -- they could find contacts for both formal, and informal, and possibly, totally weird "groups", or people, related to this.
The time that you spend reading this sentence could be employed to better advantage in almost any other way.
