The answer is yes. In January, we went to Tierra del Fuego to buy some sheep DNA. Somehow we agreed to take a ram, too, provided we figured out the transportation. This was all pre-earthquake, of course, so not a huge deal. Well, this guy decided that the ram needs to go THIS WEEK and sent him on a boat to Puerto Montt, which arrives on Monday. This leaves us with two options: find someone to drive it from Puerto Montt to Region VI, or go pick it up (flying it is evidently outrageously expensive). So far we haven't been able to find anyone to drive it, so..... after this week of 12-hour days rebuilding one of the houses that was destroyed in the quake, we get to drive down to get it!
So the question is this: Does ANYONE have any information about reliable animal transport from that area? And if not, is this trip going to be a nightmare? It seems like most of the roads have been opened along the way but... this whole scheme just seems to ludicrous to me. (Oh, and we have to be back here by Apr 1 because aforementioned DNA is scheduled for insemination on the 2nd.) Driving through an earthquake zone with a ram in the truck while we are falling over dead tired from building..... any inspiration?
