Switching from Tourist to Temporary Residencial Visa

Postby wmarllis » Wed Mar 24, 2010 4:02 pm

Hello. This forum is AMAZING!

I have been living in Chile as a tourist for 8 months. I applied for temporary residency 1 month ago and have that status and the perks too - even though I am still in the application proccess! But I´m still waiting on my physical Visa so I can get my RUT and cedula. The man at La Extranjeria said that I could work during the application process so long as I turned in a "work contract" to advise the government that I was working. But I don´t know what to tell my employers about my legal status and how that affects getting paid/paying taxes. (I´m sick of people offering me under the table jobs or offering to pay a third party) So, Here are my questions:

1. How will I get paid and declare my taxes if I don´t have a RUT or a time card/ W2 equilivant? (I get a RUT in 2 months)

2. Does anyone know what type of contract is needed to work during this inbetween stage? Notarized, indefinite, etc.

Thanks!
