I think the civil marriage license is dependent on the comuna you're in. I don't believe it is very expensive.

We're having a wedding and it will be for food/DJ/location ~2.5 to 3 millones CLP for 65 guests at a nice place in Concon. Places we looked at in Las Condes were more expensive.

Depends on a lot of things. How many guests being a really big one, also WHERE you are getting married.

I think that is about what my wife and I paid for the reception and the service.

Nice, 4 star hotel in Provedencia and a room was included in that for the new husband and wife for the night of the party. Food was good, DJ and "bi-lingual" hostess was included and we supplied our liquor for an open bar. And that was all for the $5000 or so. All the Canadians (my side) and the Chileans (my wife's side) had a great time.

That was 2 years ago so prices might be different. If you want any particulars about the hotel let me know. I will have to dig through my email and find the exact address and name.

It's been a year, but I think it the Registro Civil charged something like 6,000 pesos, maybe a bit less. That is if you do it at the Registro Civil office. It costs more if you want the official to come to your house or another place.

As far as other costs, as greg said, it can vary widely depending on the number of guests and where you have it. We just did a party at our house. The whole thing - papework, rings, food and drink cost less than US$500.

No alcohol at a Chilean wedding, interesting concept, I’ve never seen it done. %k will be fine for that sized wedding.
It's all about the wine.

Looking at my notes regarding the Registro Civil:

Go to the Registro Civil of your locale and see what their posted days and hours are for handling marriages and the cost. For that ceremony, you will need two witnesses 18 years old or older with valid carnets.

Our wedding here in Chile was without alcohol, so it can be done. :)

I think our cost including the place (a really nice casona in Talagante, with beautiful garden area if you want an outdoor wedding), all the rental equipment and food; Pretty much everything except for the civil ceremony costs included came out to be something like $17.000 per person.

The civil ceremony is quite cheap. If you go to the actual office and do it there, it's even cheaper. To have them come out to you I think is something around $60.000, not sure though.

Do you speak fairly good Spanish? If not, keep in mind another potential fee. A Chilean friend of mine married his American girlfriend and because she didn't speak very much Spanish they had the option of either providing a native speaker of English with fluent Spanish to interpret (ie, me for free) or to hire an interpreter through the Registro Civil (who was charging 70.000/hour, ouch). They met in the States and he speaks English fluently but couldn't legally interpret at his own wedding.

Here is the price list. It looks like the extra charge for having an official go to perform the wedding is 21,680 pesos during regular business hours and 28,190 outside of business hours.

If you are cheap you can do it for $2,100 USD including, rings (get them in Chile), reception, and government fees. $5,000 is more than enough and would include your airfare. Have fun! :D
