I'm a "border jumper expat" who has been spending the past year and a half busing to Mendoza every 3 months to renew my tourist visa. I need to go home on May 25th but my visa will expire (again) on April 11th, and I'd really like to NOT have to make that last trip to Arg. I've heard it's cheaper just paying the fine at the airport rather than leaving the country and coming back? Can anyone confirm or deny this? Any estimations on a fine for staying a month and a half(ish) longer than the tourist visa allows? I've already renewed my visa once at the Deptartamento de Extranjeria y Migracion, so I can't do that again. I will be returning to Chile again within the next year, so I'm mostly worried about not being able to return for X amount of time as a consequence of overstaying. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
