And how about Medicare - monumental cost overruns and fraud; is this bill not essentially Medicare for all? How on earth can we expect it to avoid the same fate?

Not to mention Medicare has cost 9xs as much as was projected. Add this to sweeping immigration reform (i.e. 20-30 million) and more people eligible for this government run healthcare what happens? Connect the dots however you like, as for me, I'm glad I'm moving to chile in 4 more months.

And Finally our Governor here in Georgia Sums it up beautifully:
Statement of Governor Sonny Perdue Regarding the Healthcare Legislation passed by the United States Congress
Monday, March 22, 2010 Contact: Office of Communications 404-651-7774

ATLANTA – Governor Sonny Perdue issued the following statement today regarding the healthcare legislation passed by the United States Congress:

“Unfortunately, the United States House of Representatives last night chose politics over the will of the American people. The enormous upheaval of our healthcare system was pushed through the House against the wishes of the majority of American families and businesses.

Here in Georgia, this vote will force an additional billion dollars or more of Medicaid spending per year, requiring either a tax hike or offsetting cuts to public safety, education and other core services of state government. While this colossal unfunded mandate cripples our budget, I am even more concerned about the debilitating impact it will have on Georgia’s small businesses. The extension of the Medicare tax on all non-wage income means that small business owners will see their top rate increased by 20 percent and investment income taxes increasing 60 percent.

What is most unfortunate is that the American people had no voice at the table in Washington during the course of this debate. The only glimpse citizens saw of the process were closed-door meetings that resulted in backroom deals and the buying of votes to ensure passage. I am today renewing my December request to the Attorney General that he join other states in reviewing the constitutionality of this travesty. My office has already begun to review any and all legal options to challenge this legislation.

I also urge the Georgia General Assembly to continue moving forward on my proposal to allow Georgians to purchase insurance plans across state lines. Now that Congress is mandating that every American purchase health insurance, we should open the individual market to as much competition as possible.

Since this bill has such a significant impact on future state budgets, it is imperative that current candidates for elected office publicly state their plans to either support the Obama-Pelosi legislation or fight for the people of Georgia.”

So you out there who thinks this power grab is about "health care" whatever. Join the majority of us who aren't drinking the kool aid. How is it compassion to destroy the one system that does provide healthcare to the poor and aged? Not to mention how is it compassionate to destroy the US economy?

I wonder where the Georgian got those figures from?

As for me, self-employed in NY State I would pay ~$1200 USD for spouse and myself on the cheapest health plan possible PER MONTH. I make over them minimum to get discounted health care (which is like under 2000 per month COMBINED income, and those plans still cost like 600, so more than 25% of someone poor's GROSS income, not net).

It may not be perfect now, it needs some work to be a better reform and there is time for that but at least now the train is in motion.

Also abortions are not covered, Obama made a compromise on that before it passed.

It needs work but we were doomed if we did nothing, too. Let's not pretend like our health care system was awesome, it wasn't. Now it may be just as bad but worse? I doubt it. And i say that not in defense of the reform in any way. Just that system as is is total garbage unless you work for a large corporation or are excessively wealthy. Small businesses alreayd buckle under the cost of providing health care, or just dont because its impossible. The criminals arent in the reform movement, they're the companies that overcharge everything from pills to procedures and beyond that created this whole mess.

But hey i dont know anything, really.

Just my 2 cents :alien:

R.I.P. ? It's been dead for awhile now, choose your date. Some would say Nov. 22nd 1963, others 1913. Maybe Sept. 11th 2001? For that matter 1861 is a good date since the Congress adjourned sine die and the Fed. Corp. usurpers took over. Doesn't matter. It's over.

This "Health Care" sham is just the latest turn as the country swirls down the toilet into the Cummuno/Socialist Paradise. Best thing for your own and your families personal safety is to be as far away from the USA clusterf*ck as you can get. I've said it a million times here and other places, I expect the full Mad Max scenario. And I'm an optimist.

Obama's Executive Order for an abortion compromise is worthless. No Presidential order can alter legislation duly passed by Congress. The gesture was/is a red herring. On top of the fact that a the Executive Branch can't make proclamations to amend passed laws is the simple truth that any Executive Order can be rescinded as easily as it was issued.

Stupak simply needed cover to vote YEA. If Obama's order truly were to disallow federal funding from this bill to be used for abortions then those organizations which profit from abortions would be extremely up in arms. They know they'll be seeing a business boom once this is over.

Thank you Atlantis  I personally feel, that if more Americans spent time preaching the word of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, perhaps he would see fit to correct America's ills. His noodley appendage cures all. Perhaps it's the lack of pirate regalia in the USA? http://www.venganza.org/about/open-letter/

Joking aside, it is interesting to see the different sides of this all. One reaction to your new bill passing: http://www.dooce.com/2010/03/22/mommyblogging

I still prefer my Flying Spaghetti Monster idea...

Thx Audeo, the Flying Spaghetti Monster was exactly what this thread needed :-) I am soooo tempted to rant about certain aspects of this thread but I fear I would push so many buttons the board will light up like a Christmas Tree

But whenever Charles gets back to us about the fish that never was ;-) I'm going to propose he create an allparaguay.net forum as a honey trap where issues that have absolutely nothing to do with Paraguay can be discussed at inordinate length, and where they can be sure that the government will never interfere with whatever they might have in mind

I've been a devout Pastafarian since discovering my inner pirate about a year ago. Arrrr!

As for American politics, I must say I'm finding it very entertaining. I feel like I'm drunk or seriously stoned when reading this thread. I mean FSM, Tom Hanks and Abortions in one thread! :alien:
