All I want to know is if a citizen who lives outside the USA but as a non-official resident is still subject to it or if in fact it is similar to the earned income exclusion measure of days outside the country?

I also don't take kindly to the IRS as health care insurance enforcement agency. With the TISA between Chile and the USA (direct sharing of info between SII and IRS), all USA expats with a RUT or RUN should be concerned.

RIP? HA!! I came to that turn the corner realization more than 9 years ago, ranted about in forums for years and gave up last year.

Just give me some non-GMO popcorn with a generous topping of unpasteurized melted butter from the south so I can watch the show. 8)

Another thought. If it is like the EI exclusion, then does this mean you have to file for the exemption? For those in the USA, will there be a new IRS form or questions like the foreign accounts totaling $10,000 + 1¢ anytime during the past year but related to health insurance?

The hard truth of the matter is that we have a president who hates our country. Look at the twenty plus years he spent in a church that did nothing but preach hatred of our country. Email me I'll send you the videos of his preacher. Look at who his role models were growing up-comunists and domestic terrorists. He launched his political career in the living room of a domestic terrorist who bombed a police station and other targets in the 1970's. As a senator he refused to wear the American Flag and salute the American flag, until he started his run for president. Even then he was caught showing disgust during the pledge. He has repeatedly alienated our allies including Great Britian. Fortunately some of my fellow countrymen are finally getting their heads out of their butts and realizing what is going on. Unfortunately they seem to subscribe to the view he is trying to create a "socialist utopia"....which has repeatedly failed everywhere. I think the libitards he surrounds himself with may be trying to do so; but our president knows how failed this is.He is actually using this as a fast track front while trying to destroy our country. I know as a Christian that God has repeatedly abandoned and/or destroyed past societies that have failed to protect the young and vulnerable. Now that we are all paying for abortion through this new health deform legislation; and school children are being subject to "safe school czar" Kevin Jennigs radical and pedophile cirriculum; I feel it is just a matter of time. My husband and I and our familes have never been wealthy or well connected. We have all been through periods of financial instability and deprivation. This current period is the worst. I feel there is even more trouble to come.

And furthermore actor Tom Hanks has been engaging in stupid dialog further spreading Hollywood hatred of our country (leave already) There was this wonderful response a week ago from another American patriot who is just as sick of it as we are:
I am the son and grandson of World War II combat veterans. Tom Hanks for years and years charmed his way into America's heart even the sycophant media proclaim him the new 'James Stewart' . I'm sure we would hear Mr. Stewart called America a racist Nation for fighting the Japanese. At least the moment Sean Penn became famous he unloaded his stomach vile upon the nation. But Hanks play Mr. Charmer until today when his true colors came out. I guess he has to pay the devil his dues for all the fame and money he has achieved.

I wonder it Tommy boy knows that the Japanese invaded China in the 1920s and raped that country six ways to Sunday. Even today they deny the Rape of Nanking. They went into Korea and killed thousands, there is no love lost between the Koreans and the Japanese.

Then they invaded all the pacific rim the islands and made slaves of all the Philippines and that ' new race by these libtards the 'island pacifiers" After they sneak attacked us on Dec 7 since we are such pricks, did Tommy boy read about the Bataan Death march, that little walk in the sun where the Shinto monks killed over 700 allied troops. That sure wasn't racism, that was retaliation of American Imperialism and for shutting off the oil to the Emperor. How dare we big bad Yankee imperialistic dogs shut off the juice so the living God can gobble up nations.... gobble, gobble, gobble!

How about the fact that not one Australian POW went home after the war, the Japanese beheaded everyone of them or the fact that, toward the end of the war, they would put Allied POWs, into cargo ships and anchor them off Tokyo Bay so US Subs would sink them. Here we are thinking there were supply ships waiting to be unloaded. That was their Shinto faith of brotherly love towards the American Dogs.

I don't know about you guys out there that read this, but I am FED UP with these Hollywood rich assholes who piss on everything we stand for. I'd would match the worst time in America's history to any other country out there from any other time period.

Where else on this ingrate worthless planet can a kid like Hanks, who comes from a divorced home, make his way here and become a multi-millionaire and then turns around and calls America a racist country?

What other damn country out there isn't racist? The democratic party which the entire Hollywood, the media, they commie professors in our Universities all belong too, has a history of nothing but being a racist party. It was the Democrats that maintained slavery and refuse to sigh the Constitution if they outlawed it. It was the Democrats that broke away from the Union to maintain States Rights for the reason of slavery, not to protect any of the other rights, which today we are dealing with. It was the democrats that put in Jim Crow, created the Klan, segregation, it was the Dems that refuse to join the civil rights movement until LBJ figure by passing the Civil Rights Act he would own the 'N" vote forever in this country as he said in 64.

To add insult to injury we have to deal with these leftist malcontents that crawled out of the mud in Woodstock and listen to the ramblings of what... actors? Lets give these losers a lesson in capitalism, STOP GOING TO SEE THEIR FILMS, Don't WATCH THEIR HISTORY CHANNEL films that insult AMERICA.

. STOP FEEDING THESE ANIMALS break them at the box office, hurt them in their bank accounts, shunned them as outcast and lepers as they do us. When they open their pie hole put your foot down their throats. Don't let the bastards breathe, this is OUR COUNTRY, our home that they are taking a dump in and we are paying them to do it.

Now. Tom Hanks as come out of his mansion paid for by a conservative country to insult the greatest generation that saved his worthless ingrate ass from ending up in a death camp brought to you by those non-aggression nations like Japan, Germany and that commie paradise CCCP.

Its time we slap these quisling misprint ingrates down and hold them up for ridicule as they do any conservative. Hanks, Spielberg, Penn, Stone, Mahar, Baldwin and the rest of this worthless mediocre town be held accountable for the vile hate that spews out of their mouths. They feel we can't do anything to them, lets stop feeding these fat bloated pigs that live off our hard earn money.

These bums couldn't walk in the boots of a new recruit at boot camp. Have you no shame Tom Hanks, how dare you call our war in the Pacific a racist war on our side. When we still have dead Marines buried in the sand all over the Pacific in not even unmarked graves. You sir, are the lowest of a human being. damn you and your ideology.

OH and BTW, "Mr. Hanks" slammed my late father in law and my uncles with his ignorant remark also. My late father in law served on Iwo Jima. My uncles who were first generation Americans also served in WWII and the Korean War. Our nephew, a marine; recently returned after honorably serving in Iraq. I am the granddaughter of legal immigrants who became proud citizens of our great country.

Hello all, I´m a long time lurker but after reading some of the nonsense in this post I feel the need to vent.

"I know as a Christian that God has repeatedly abandoned and/or destroyed past societies that have failed to protect the young and vulnerable. Now that we are all paying for abortion through this new health deform legislation"

As a Christian how could you object this bill that will help to 'protect the young and vulnerble´ by giving them healthcare. It also seems that you think raped women should have to suffer through no fault of their own. I thought a "Christian" country that America is would welcome such a change in healthcare. Jesus did preach that we should take care of the people who cannot take care of themselves. But then I remembered that it's the dollar that is truly sacred in the society. And unfortunately those that have it have a larger say in how society is run then those that don't.

It was also amusing watching some Republicans on the news prophesying that passing this bill would somehow be the beginning of the end for life as they knew it in America. That this was start of the dark path towards socialism that would prevent day to day honest Americans from living out their lives without Government intervention. As if their lives have only changed recently, rather conveniently ignoring the passed decade to which more intrusive civil liberty laws such as the Patriot Act have allowed the Government to legally snoop on honest Americans on a daily basis.

"The hard truth of the matter is that we have a president who hates our country. Look at the twenty plus years he spent in a church that did nothing but preach hatred of our country. Email me I'll send you the videos of his preacher. Look at who his role models were growing up-comunists and domestic terrorists. So you´ re saying that someone who is not blindly patriotic is evil. Last time I checked, blind patriotism led to the rise of man called Hitler and we all know how well that turned out.

Oy vey, I'm going to regret feeding it... can't seem to help myself.

Am not American, very happy to be Canadian. We have our own problems but will take those over our neighbors problems any day. I can see why my fellow expats here on the board would be following the passing of this bill with interest. US tax laws being what they are, it will most likely affect you regardless of where you are in the world. You have my sympathy. That being said, I have to ask...

WTF does Tom Hanks have to do with anything and why would anyone feel that totally weird rant was appropriate on this forum even if this thread is about health care reform?

I'd say hello random, but crazy showed up instead

All American children have access to healthcare and dental care provided by their state. In our state it is called Peachcare. Our nieces and nephews are happy recipients. All American in general have access to free and/or reduced cost medical care if they do not have insurance. Both through local health as well as local medical charity. I have been uninsured at various times in my adult life. I availed my local health clinic of their well woman care and had excellent free physicials, and was provided with free birth control. Any kind of free birth control I wanted including implant. The last time I needed this service was four years ago. I also had an eye infection treated by a clinic operated by a local church. All American women have access to the morning after pill. It is routinely provided to rape victims. The sad truth of the matter about abortion in America is only a tiny percent might be for rape. The vast majority is convience by lazy women who can't seem to keep themselves safe by using a combo of condom plus other reliable birth control methods. Sadly enough the abortion clinics have also been caught covering up molestation of minors by providing abortions to children as young as 11 and 12 years of age, without required consent. Recently it was revealed that these abortion mills are doing the most business in minority neighborhoods. This raises troubling questions. Back to socialized medicine.....you do not break a system that works for the majority to cover a minority of 4 to 6 million who have access to care but not insurance. Does it work in the UK? NO. Does it work in Canada? NO.

In defense of my original post:

RIP - BECAUSE: The majority of Americans likely see the passage of this bill as exactly that; the death knell of a great nation (based on multiple polls). Some may have read the writing on the wall years ago (eeuunikkeixpat of course :study: ), but I would venture that the majority of Americans opposed to this are paying more attention now than they ever have before (so its safe to say, not all of them are well versed in the subtleties of recent history).

RIP - BECAUSE: The above referenced, freshly ticked off American's may well find themselves exploring expat resources (when this option would never have seemed necessary to them before); and this is an expat resource last I checked.

RIP - BECAUSE: American expats, currently abroad or soon to be, will likely be affected by the outcome of the bill's passage (either through direct taxation or the general havoc resulting from the passage (think about market reaction etc)).

So, this soon-to-be expat is glad to be far enough down the road that I know I have a 'way out' (unless of course, Tom :alien: Hanks is also seeking residency in Chile, in which case I'm totally screwed :fire: ).

(AND... its impossible to discuss HCR publicly and not get people's PO'd reactions - mine included)

Ah, no need to be so melodramatic! Focus on some of the positives: Job portability insurance; cannot be denied insurance because of a pre-existing medical condition; 32 million more Americans will now have coverage.

Yeah, longer waits to see the doctor, more doctors retiring (up to 1/3...likely 15%) then going into medicine, long waits for surguries, MORE paperwork to fill out by both the doctor and patient...I'm so excited!

OMG, how did we undercount them in a census year?

I couldn't have said it better...I wonder if the fence constructions halt was so that more "undocumented insurgents" can cross before the bill is passed? Then They'll finish it to keep other out AND to keep US citizens in :!:
