:?: :?: :?: For quite a while now, the IRS has the authority to tax you for the next ten years if they determine you renounced citizenship for tax reasons and you meet certain income thresholds before renouncing.

Also, there is a newer law which penalty taxes your USA assets after renouncing.

Haha that's true, the next thing we'll know is that we'll be fined by the IRS for renouncing our citizenship

The law went into effect in 2008 and applies if an American renounces their U.S. citizenship or expatriates permanently and has assets valued over $600K. The tax is calculated on unrealized gains in retirement or savings accounts, real estate, and cash holdings world wide. It is due and payable immediately, and there is no judicial review. If you are lucky, they may offer a tube of K-Y jelly. 8)

Wow I didn't know that lol. I guess it's a good thing to not own anything in the US if you want to renounce your citizenship :D

I will finally get around to this this week.

All State department and embassy info still say no fee for adding passport pages.

Passport Pages

Postby eeuunikkeiexpat » Tue May 04, 2010 2:44 pm

Passport pages done.

FYI, enclosing 10.000 with return address info and they'll DHL it back to you. I used Chilexpress for aprox. $1.600 to send it to them. Cheaper than two RTs into Santiago plus Metro plus other incidental expenses. And I kept my lungs away from that clean Santiago air!

received this from the embassy I was registered with in Africa (good reasons for that one) I assume the information is the same here and if you have not gotten your passport pages added then you still have a few days left. I don't think you can mail it in though. It also looks like the reciprocity fees are going to go up as a result as well.
