O.k. down kids. I likly did overreacted a bit to the previous trolls implication that we somehow had no skin in the game in Chile or know nothing about Chile, after risking everything to help Chile the last weeks. But, I will respond to the new troll anyway (you sure smell like the last troll).
I am being called a racist because I think someone breaking another countries laws should not be rewarded for breaking those laws simply because some relative in another country is in trouble. I could even buy there might be a lot of legit humanitarian reasons by which the U.S. government should normalize someone's immigration status (e.g. Children born in the U.S. but parents are illegal). I just don't buy that in the case of Chile, and Chileans living in the U.S., that somehow that money is getting back to Chile in any significant way. This is not Haiti we are talking about, and this is not even Mexico or Guatemala where a large measurable amount of the GDP is based on remittance from the United States from people that are in the country illegally. The U.S. would spend billions, so that a handful of people could send home perhaps a few million dollars at best. By the way, money from jobs in a country that likly has higher effective unemployment rate than Chile. It would benifit one group, and one group only: Chileans already living in the United States illegally. Great, I hope they get their immigration status, but don't try to use this tragedy as an excuse.
Either move to a country like Canada that has much more friendly immigration laws (likly better pay and more jobs) or find an immigration attorney. I am simply not patting anyone illegally in a country (any country), Chilean, Mexican, British, black, white, or likewise on the back for committing a crime or otherwise not trying to correct their situation. Again, if the U.S. will not allow them to legally stay there and work, move to another country. It is not the only country in the World.
