Time Change

Postby allegro » Thu Mar 11, 2010 7:35 pm

A few days ago, I briefly heard on CNN Chile that the end of daylight savings time was being postponed from this weekend to April 3, due to the Earthquake (although I'm really not sure how they relate...but that's why I posted in this forum). Since then I haven't heard anything on the news, but timeanddate.com just switched it to April 3, too. What's the official word on this? And why? Not that I'm complaining of a few extra weeks of "longer" days...

Im not sure if MS have got there stuff together to get a update out in time....

Chile’s federal government has postponed the country’s daylight saving end date in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake. The Chilean Government announced that the daylight saving schedule’s end date for 2010 “would be delayed until April 3” – most likely at midnight (00:00) between Saturday, April 3, and Sunday April 4, 2010. Various news sources claim that the government’s decision to delay the current daylight saving schedule’s end date was to give a respite to places affected by the earthquake, particularly where there may not be electricity.

Chile’s current daylight saving schedule, was supposed to end at midnight (00:00) between Saturday, March 13, and Sunday, March 14, 2010 as DST in Chile usually starts at midnight (00:00) between the second Saturday and the second Sunday of October. It then ends at midnight (00:00) between the second Saturday and the second Sunday of March.

The one we are running in to that is driving us nuts is the frigen curfew. It was set from 6 pm to 12 pm in the morning in many places. Why would you do that in a crisis where electricity is a problem?

Dusk to dawn makes way more sense if you have to have a curfew.

We need every daylight hour to move aid and operate. We have been getting wavers to operate in the military controlled areas most of the time, but it is still scary for our people to go in to a place and not know if the guy with the gun on the ground got the memo.

dawn to dusk DOES make sense, to maximize the productivity with natural light....but...we are in latin america where half the population sleeps til noon. productivity isn't highly valued, even at a time when it is clearly needed. it can all wait til tomorrow, right?

BUMP

Many will have to manually set this up.

Remember by gov decree time was again modified and fall "fall back" will not occur till the first weekend in April.

FYI, Chile and Argentina time will be the same until the first weekend of April.

For auto sync, time zone Montevideo, Uruguay works but don't forget to shift back to Santiago, Chile in April.
