I need to add those are unconfirmed reports from Chiloe. If you know Chiloe, you know how rumors can get out of hand.

i agree with gregf...this is getting old. i got my first good night's sleep a couple of nights ago as i came down from red-orange-yellow alert status....then that long, deep rumble returned and my stomach turned over.

maybe the new government can make a truce with mother nature?

the tsunamis will probably be small...but remember that they come in sets of "high tides"....so just because one passes doesn't mean that the danger is over.

Apparently alert has ended and many cars have left.

Salud,

Same, I had JUST gotten over the vertigo and now today it's starting all over again. I live on the 10th/top floor of my building, so every movement is exaggerated. Right now it's back to rippling every few minutes. Nothing major but enough to make you crazy very quickly.

Well, USGS seems to have revised its data, and all the quakes are more or less at the same depth, 35km give or take. Of course, the shoa.cl page can't be contacted, been trying for the past 10 minutes... wow, these are guys you can depend on in an emergency :-S

Perhaps I should just send Pinera a bill. Chile can outsource all the disasters stuff to our office.

Indeed. We were in Valpo, no-one seemed to have much of an idea what was going on...

For the 7.2, we were at the Extranjeria, on the 15th floor. Just felt like a longer, worse aftershock. The second one happened on our way downstairs. Lots of people evacuated then.

Everyone started running for the hills.. including the bomberos. A little unsettling. They didn't know what was going on for quite a while. From a window, someone reported the lack of tsnami warning from the USGS, but we left it a couple of hours before coming back to Vina. Metro suspended. Our bus driver told us to get on quickly, but then kept stopping to fill it up even further.. a packed mirco, not my first place of choice during a tsunami.

Lots of carabineros around, but I think for Pinera. On our walk home, we were passed by an escorted convoy of posh cars. Maybe the man himself?

Another strong one now.... :( still going....

Ya, it's been a very unstable day as far as the ground goes around here. I've headed outside more than once.

Heard that the ports closed, all at the pier working vessels had to leave the port area and go into deep sea, due to the tsunami warning. The tsunami warning is for 4 hours, so, except for ongoing aftershakes, should be back to normalcy soon.

That one we just had was a 5.8, same region as the others.

I was talking to someone in Santiago when that one happened and the call terminated itself (se terminó).

San Antonio is actually right on the periphery of the primary shake zone circle of those quakes.

The Lo Gallardo bridge was closed to vehicle traffic earlier after today's big shake except for peotonal traffic. Looks like that too has stopped and the engineers are studying it at the moment. So Santo Domingo is cutoff once again.

If that one was any shallower, it would not qualify as an earthquake because it would not be in the earth.
