This evening my pareja said the word from CCU (Cristal and Escudo among others) is that production normality will take a month.

For those in the San Antonio area, Tottus still had a large stock of liter Becker bottles for 829 pesos two days ago.

Kunstmann had better be able to deliver when I get down there at the end of the month, otherwise I'm going to ferment that malt barley myself :D I do so like a glass of Gran Torobayo
You are disturbing me. I am picking mushrooms.

i don't drink escudo or crystal. i usually go for austral, or stella, or heineken. i don't think that the production of those beers has been affected, but the distribution certainly has been, and with a shortage of escudo and crystal we can expect the prices of all beer to rise. in my case, since i don;t have electricity at my house in dichato yet, i can't keep the beer cold anyway. i guess i'll have to settle for red wine.....

Cervecera CCU Chile (Cristal, Escudo) - Antofagasta, Santiago y Temuco.
Heineken y Budweiser - Santa Fe, Argentina
Kunstmann - Valdivia
Austral - Punta Arenas
Las bebidas gaseosas- Santiago y Talcahuano.
Las aguas minerales Cachantun y Porvenir - Casablanca y Coinco, V Región y VI Región

Of course pisco stuff is up north. The problem for the Santiago plant is also that their distribution system is down (computers damaged, etc.) which can effect non-Santiago produced items.

The March 3 official release from CCU:

…1. Our soft drinks, purified water, functional beverages, tea, mineral water, and
sweet snacks operations suffered minor damages and we have dedicated
efforts to clean, repair and set them in order which will allow us to resume the
normal course of operations starting today. Our pisco business was not
damaged and has been continuously in operation.

2. Regarding our beer operation in Santiago, it suffered damages in the filtering
and bottling areas. The Company immediately activated a Contingency Plan
with two purposes: (a) to restore all the installations condition to the pre-
earthquake status, within an estimated period of two to three months, and (b) in
the meantime, to implement a mitigation plan procuring to satisfy the demand in
normal terms. This plan means a temporary reallocation of the production within
the CCU system to the lesser damaged productive plants in Chile and to its
breweries in Argentina, so as to offset the temporarily lower production in the
Santiago brewery in the next two to three months.

3. The situation of our wine business was informed directly by the subsidiary
Viña San Pedro Tarapacá S.A. to the (SVS) on this date. Attached the reader
will find a translation of the communiqué.

4. The logistic operation is functioning in various degrees, depending on the
location with respect to the earthquake’s epicenter. It is being affected by the
difficulties of the current situation in the wrecked zone: damaged roads and
highways, limitations in the sale of fuel, lack of security in certain distribution
zones, interrupted communications and lack of energy. In addition, we have
suffered losses of the finished products inventory for approximately 200
thousand hectoliters of assorted product categories, and losses of raw and
production material. The inventories will be recovered shortly thanks to the
Contingency Plan and to the support of our suppliers. …

I have the wine covered. Yes the industry lost about 125,000,000 liters and most of those we deal with did due to tank breakage but there is more.
The wineries we import for are always wishing to increase their local sales as well so I can refer everyone to a few that will sell direct to you or I can ask if they can offer some on promo to us in Chile.

The beer shortage hit home yesterday. the local botilleria had NO BEER in returnable bottles, and none of the brands i normally buy. there was no heineken, or stella, or austral. i ended up buying a bolivian beer (cucena), which wasn't bad, but rather expensive considering the bottles were only 620 ml.

i will try to stock up at a bigger market today.
