Flying post-earthquake with dogs...

Postby DogBruiser » Thu Mar 04, 2010 6:37 pm

I have a flight on AA from Santiago to Dallas on March 8th. My two dogs HAVE to travel with me in cargo. I live past La Ligua, 2 hours north of Santiago. I was told AA need to know ahead of time if you're taking dogs, and I'm scared it's so chaotic at the airport this is a bad idea anyway. I also see they don't want anyone at the airport unless you have a flight.
Does anyone have any thoughts, or way to contact the airline to either check about dogs flying, or to delay my flight???? I bought an economy ticket with no insurance!
Thank you to anyone who can help!

Have you tried calling AA? That's a starting point. You do need to let them know so they save you a spot in cargo. You should be able to do that by calling the airline, so they link your reservation with your pets (at least that is how we did it when we flew from Mexico to Chile with several pets - though not on AA - but our reservation was associated with pet transport). You have probably been to AA's website regarding pet transport, but just in case, here is the link: https://www.aacargo.com/shipping/animals.jhtml

If a phone call to AA doesn't work, or if you are still nervous, if I were you, I'd go to the airport anyway and talk to the agents there. It's just too important to leave to chance.

Good luck.
