We are all set.

Latest the doctors are flying out of Palena, because at the last moment we found out the Futa runway is closed. Not a big issue, and solved now it seems.

We are working on trying to provide real time or near real time tracking on google maps for people that want to follow along.

This is the message I sent to precede the forward; copy, amend, disregard it as you see fit:

GREETINGS ALL

You know I'm rarely a sender of forwards; based on that I hope you appreciate the importance of what you're looking at now. This is an email I created, and I want to see it travel as far and wide as possible.

Most of you know that xxxxx and I are planing to move to Chile in 10 months time. The recent devastation in the country has left me heartsick and I'm doing all I can to help my friends there.

Please read what I've written; and if nothing else, forward it to your friends and family.

That is a super 24 hours guys. The plane takes off tomorrow, if all goes well with weather and the doctors picking up their license, they should be in Temuco by early afternoon. We hopefully will have time to get at least recon flight in tomorrow, so we can hit the ground running on Sunday.

Pay pal has Blocked our account because they think we need to be a charity.

We are not a charity.

Can you access the $$ still at least?

Set up another PayPal account if you can. Dealing with them will hold up the entire effort (especially over the weekend).

I have had two people ask me if you were a 501(c)(3) - told them no.

Or see if anybody you trust has a valid account that can be used.

Or have people who want to donate send an email with the amount they'll contribute and then send them an invoice (through your new paypal account)...

Oh crap, I just realized...... so those huge emails we just sent out - does this mean the paypal button won't work?

A new paypal account would not be ideal in that regard. Removing Paypal's head from their ass would be better.

Le sigh. The boyfriend just pointed out something. Probably there has been all sorts of douchy behavior recently, people trying to scam donations for Haiti/Chile earthquakes and possibly using Paypal as a means for this. Perhaps there's a way to show Paypal that Spender Global is an Impromptu Aid Group and detail everything you guys are going to use $ for?

I would hope Paypal can be reasoned with given the right tone and evidence?

Stop sending those emails immediately.

We are not a non-profit organizations in anyway. I guarantee no one anything about where this money will go, or what I will do with it, other than the trust our buisness reputation we has built with our clients and the community.

We are on the issue with pay pal.


We have plenty of funds here in Chile and donated through other means.

Charles, is there somewhere we can direct people in terms of donations, other than paypal. I mean for the international contingent. I'm fine with sending a second email and explaining the mix up, to please donate wherever else you specify instead....

First, no one panic. Nothing has changed. The funds were not going clear for another week to two weeks to Chile anyway through Pay Pal (they are slow, if they work at all). We were personally putting up our own money to pay for the gas in the mean time, plus using the funds that were immediately available in our accounts from other people.

I called them and they told me I have to send a letter to their compliance office. That they might respond to me in 3-5 days. They don't take phone calls.

I will post an alternative bank account in the morning for the U.S.

It was one person that blew the whole project by paying, and then disputing a payment. I instantly refunded their money, but pay pal went off the rails about the whole project because of that one dispute and wants us to produce proof of 501c3.

Pay pal likes to play the dispute game because they get to make lots of interest off the funds they hold from both sides. If they can lock an entire account, then they make that much more money. How they do not qualify as a bank I have never understood.

So pay pal, you earned yourself some really great PR today with a lot of people. You better fix it.
