List Aid and Assistance Needed in Chile Earthquake Zones

Postby admin » Wed Mar 03, 2010 11:14 am

This is still early, and we are trying to work out as we establish communications with various areas and get various reports in, where aid and assistance is needed, and how to get it there.

We will then use another thread to cross reference and create contact with offers of aid.

Please list areas you know about that need help, what they need, describe the damage that you know of, and also any known assistance already going in to the area so we can try to avoid duplication.

We are at this point trying to make sure no one is missed in the confusion. First, we got to figure out where that is. If anyone can grab these place names and gleem any updates or reports about what is going on from other sources on the internet. We want to try and do for communities, what have going for the missing people.

We want identify the places with reports of no aid. Try and eliminate the ones that are receiving aid.

Finally, devote resources to facilitate getting aid there. Once the government is there and established great. It is all there show, and we will move on to trying to organize or retask aid to the next one.

I am going to kick this off. We are just getting confirmed reports about what is needed in Puerto Savadra and surrounding coastal communities of the 9th region east of Temuco. They were destroyed and/or flooded by a Tsunami wave. Several near by towns were completely destroyed. I am waiting for more info, as my wife is currently talking to the truck drivers running the aid at the distribution point in Temuco. This is one of the poorest areas in the 9th region, with a heavy Mapuche population in and around the area that had little before this disaster.

We are sending this morning blankets and contact forms for the people there that need to contact anyone outside of that area, and getting a full list of needs the area.

--Hygien type stuff.
--shelter (there was rain yesterday, looks today too)
--baby formula bottles
--food

They have plenty of clothing, and are in fact being overwhelmed with too much clothing.

This is one we can easily coordinate directly out of our office right now as we have long time contacts with the community there and in Temuco.

QUIRIHUE:

Up to this date they have received only 1000 rations of food from privates, no government help there.
Quirihue is very close to Cobquecura, thus the damage must be extensive.
By Saturday they will run out of food.

    Urgently needed:
    Food - flour!!
    Tents
    Sleeping bags
    Baby dippers

Any news from Buchupureo???

Helping establishing which areas need what help is a great contribution to turning chaos into order and prioritizing aid. Just don't forget there already seems to be a well-established chain for co-ordinating the logistics, so I hope you'll keep in touch with ONEMI and make sure you're complementing other efforts effectively. I know there are areas with no government help yet, but it might be good to know what the authorities are planning to do next, for example. Just my 2c & I hope you find it constructive.

Cheers,

James.

TVN is broadcasting that there is a desperate need for chemical bathrooms and things like bleach. All basic sanitation needs are not being met. In most situations there seems to be plenty of things like clothing flowing .

Shelters. Shelters are the big thing. Thankfully we are in the summer, but it is still cold near the oceans at night. We still are subject to rain storms this time of year.

EARTHQUAKE IN PORTEZUELO

Gentlemen, many homes have fallen in Cabrerias, Buenos Aires and around Portezuelo, but at this moment there is only one injured person that has been transferred to Chillan, this is Don Reinaldo Caro. Although many others have been injured, none are serious but there are no landlines, cellphones and there are a few strangers present, presumably escapees from the prison in Chillan who are being tracked by the police into the hills. Many people are camping in the plaza due to fear and because their houses have collapsed but are in good health. There is partial water supply but no light.

PETS

Donations of food for dogs and cats will be accepted and dispatched on Saturday. Approximately 700,000 pets are in need according to ONEMI.
The location is the clinic in Santa Sofia Nunoa, Jose Domingo Canas 2080, near the corner of the sports field, 2 blocks from Irarrazaval. Phone: 7910969

We understand that there need to be priorities, but without delay, theses needs must be met as well.

Every little bit counts!
