Just got word that areas that need help are:

Nancagua --> desperately need bulldozers and food
Callejones --> need food
Paquillay Alto y Bajo --> need food
Peralillo --> need everything......

Can I make a suggestion....during the wake of the tsunami here in Indonesia we as NGOs were asked to organise a "donate a bucket" scheme....People who wanted to help out were asked to purchase a simple but strong bucket and fill with the following ; soap,shampoos, toothbrushes and toothpaste, laundry soap, strong string ,pegs, bleach, disinfectant, water purifying tablets , basic first aid kit, vitamins, candles and matches. These items came in very useful as often basic things get overlooked in the aftermath of a disaster of this magnitude.....they all proved to be easily accessible and cheap to provide....as often people have these types of items in their kitchen store cupboards....just a thought....hope it helps.

Give and receive information about the state of schools in Chile. We need volunteers to go to schools and comment on the structural state of the buildings and then record the information on sheets provided. This initiative is to complement an ongoing telephone survey that is being carried out by Mineduc in partnership with the Department of Industrial Engineering from the U. de Chile. The information will be used to establish where classes will be able to resume and where to allocate the necessary efforts to get schools up and running ASAP.

UN TECHO PARA CHILE


With the aim of trying to coordinate the relief efforts to the worst affected 100 municipalities of the earthquake-tsunami, "Un techo para Chile" is urgently appealing to professional volunteers that are mobile and able to travel south to provide help.

Each team will need trained people to be accountable for the information/tasks provided. It is important to highlight that this is purely on a voluntary basis and that each person will have to assume their own costs and eventual associated risks.

Additionally, each person will be required to bring at least 60 liters of petrol/gas (in containers), 1 notebook with wireless internet connection and AC chargers for the notebook and cell phone.

All those that are able to join this initiative, most volunteer and be present at the following activities:

- Thursday 4th march 18:00 hrs. Briefing meeting at Colegio San Ignacio del Bosque, Pocuro 2801, Providencia

- Thursday 4th march 21:00 hrs. Teams leaving to the affected 100 municipalities

- Thursday 4th and Friday 5th march. Fact finding and situation briefing in conjunction with municipal agents

- Friday 5th march 21:00 hrs. Compiling and sending information to "Un techo para Chile" via internet

The information sent will be of great importance and will help shape the resulting decisions and actions over the coming days.

I went there today with a neighbor to drop off a few sacks of dog and cat food. They are receiving donations until tomorrow at 9 pm for the first shipment, although it sounds like they will be continuing the effort.
