Crime and dishonour

Postby go play outside » Tue Mar 02, 2010 12:50 pm

Please be careful of people taking advantage of the situation. Stories are increasing about people scamming and robbing, such as announcing a water truck has arrived then ripping off the houses as people go to find it.

The Pulse office in Santiago just fell victim too. PLEASE TAKE CARE there are some real desperate or sad or *******people out there.

Crime warning in Santiago – Pulse office robbed
http://www.thepulse.cl/

Two men posing as workmen just visited The Pulse office saying that they had the owner’s instructions to check the building for further damage. As the building is showing notable damage, and the men used the correct name, the three staff working there let them in. Immediately they felt something was wrong and one of our staff members asked them to leave. One of the men pushed the staff member and they fled, taking a camera and breaking the broadcast PC. Staff were shaken but unhurt.

The office is currently without internet but remote staff are attempting to continue publishing news as it happens.

I Love Chile Ltda asks everyone to please be aware that such scams are operating and spread the word. Please take care of your property and, most importantly, take care of your personal safety and of those around you.

Here on the coast up north it's just typical douchy behavior by the dumb and greedy. Went to meet up with MikieO to head to Llolleo and en route, my cabby told me about the supermercado in El Tabo (La Lica, I think it's called) who had royally jacked up their prices. Stuff that was normally 1600p was up to 3500p. Anyhow, they were apparently reported to the local Carabineros and would have been closed down entirely if it weren't for the fact that people still need to buy food. Nice to know someone got caca'd on for their greed for once!

Am also happy to report that Llolleo, although still without power, seems to have cleaned up alot of the mess and is looking better. I was told San Antonio is in ruins in various parts and nothing is open as of yet. I feel very lucky to be in El Quisco, which may be hell during the summer rush, but fared very well and has not had any trouble with violent or greedy behavior. Everyone seems to be helping their neighbor out. We have no water though, so smell to high heaven :D
Does anyone want a very sweet little puppy, she's vaccinated and fixed...

There have been stories of shops closing suddenly in the centro of santiago today after looters starting causing trouble.... and friends have been told to stay indoors this evening if they live in the centro?

It appears people are taking advantage of the situation... there is really no need to be looting in santiago, plent of power, food, water closer by.. its just plain theft...

Does anyone have any more information on this?

We heard rumors of looting in Barrio Brasil but it's apparently under control right now.

My nana just told me of another neighbourhood where uniformed people were going house to house and saying there was a water tanker coming at the end of the road... as everyone rushed out to meet it, team 2 slipped into their houses and nicked everything.

I am sick to the stomach of this.

Although there has been substantial damage, I hadn't realized things are that disorderly as far North as Santiago. It's always amazing how many opportunists pop out of the woodwork when these things happen.
