Hi all,

This is my very first message to this forum. But I've been following the forum when I lived in Chile and especially now after the earthquake. You guys are doing amazing job there!

At the moment I'm in Finland, in my homecountry. I just read the newspaper about the earthquake in Chile and how they now have reached all the Finnish people living in Chile. That's why I felt that I need to post here. There was a short comment from a Finnish man who just moved to Concepcion with his family of four. They survived and their last name begins with S, so I'm 99% sure that is the KristinaS's family. They are allright!

Chippy, thanks for posting, sounds like great news... Anyway you could confirm? Can you possibly contact the newspaper/journalist and explain that we are searching and ask them to ask the family to log on or make some sort of contact and let us know for sure. Thanks so much.

In the news it's told that Family S moved to Chile about a month ago. They lived in Concepcion on 22th floor and they have two small kids. Now the house is in a risk of collapsing. After the quake they lived in hotel and in the beginnig of this week they were staying with the family of Jorge Enriguez Albornoz (the consulate of honor of Finland in Concepcion). Father of the Family S was in Santiago, when the newspaper (Helsingin Sanomat, http://www.hs.fi, the journalists are there in Chile atm, I guess in Concepcion or the area) interviewed him.

It is confirmed by the Finnish embassy in Santiago, that all Finnish people living in Chile are safe and no one is injured.

Thanks Chippy, that really sounds like her. What are the odds the article is talking about someone else?

That leaves 3 people we haven't heard from in Concepcion.

...confirmed by the Finnish embassy...

Ok, but then what is the probability that the Finnish embassy may not have all the information about all Finish people in Chile?

p checking in.

no damage although very isolated, we got power back on friday and spotty phone service.

travel through to villarrica and pucon in its original route is limited to light vehicles as both bridges are damaged. a few deaths here from slides and heart attacks. no panic or looting and essentialy calm. we are getting regular gas suppliies and goods and services, are fine if not regular.

we got essentially no news for 2 days and playing cath up now.

p

let me add that the things to do and get done in any given moment is not overwhelming but close to it....you cannot go to to town with not enough gas to get back and you have to plan to be there all day in order to have the best chance to get everything you can...its all about concentration so that you do not miss a single opportunity...this is nothing new to most expats if not a way of life but when everyone else is doing the same you have to be on your toes...anyone not checking in will most likely be up to their armpits in trying to get everything done...it has taken me a week plus to post here....

haaaaaa or should i say
jajajajaaaa

i thought of you swing around in your apartment about an hour after and waiting for another replica...you know the strong one that always comes just after.

Really nothing different than how it usually is...but i have not been isolated like this before and where i lack a great big story like i usually have had in times like this i thiink i have a longer running one than usual to make up for it.

it seems prophetic that i started that post but than if we have lived any time out of the usa, the unusual and unexpected is the usual and expectd.

my hands are full now, it took me 7 hours last monday to file one story and trying to give info when there wasn' any available. i have learned alot this time out and look forward to sharing it.

when i started the "when it happens in chile" i had a few ideas of what we should do but could not put my hands around it but now after going through it all again recently and with this new info age i have some good ideas.

i will be on here sporadic but too much to do and won't be regular again until may or so.

glad to see you aree okay and still mostly sugffering frm dizzy spells...

Have been a bit busy and did not reply to the personal message that was sent.
Informed of my existence to embassy of Finland when finally had electricity and could connect.

Coincidence or not but I moved from Constitucion to Los Angeles (de Chile) at the end of last year. I visited Constitucion last Wednesday because a friends pregnant wife and their daughter were still there and also to bring things that people might need. They had just built a house close to the river. But of course most important thing is that they are safe and sound.

Was walking on the beach in front of Rompeolas and just couldn't believe the disaster. In Villa Copihue, higher up in Consti looked as if there ever had been a earthquake. The houses had suffered very little, if no damage at all.

Everybody take care....

I was looking at the 3 members listed at the top of the list and I don't know if it makes a big difference, but tasp07MN hasn't signed into the forum since Feb 2009.
