MISSING allchile.net members

Postby admin » Tue Mar 02, 2010 8:45 am

Say, I just had a horrible thought last night as I was sitting in bed thinking about what more we could do. We are missing some long time forum members still, and some are in the really bad areas and have not signed on to the forum.

List of old Chile forum MIAs I know of right now:
cali_chile48 has not logged on since the quake. He just bought a house in that area and on the coast. I sent a PM. I think I have a cell phone number for him

our other forum moderator eeuunikkeiexpat is still MIA, has anyone had contact?

El Puelche I believe is up near Pucon right now. He is likly fine.

There was a girl from sweden I think that was in Concepción just a day or two before the quake, and joined the forum asking about a place to meet foreigners.

Could a few of the old timers that know who is active and who is not on the forum check through the list of members, their last post, pm and email them, and collect them together so we can see about then finding phone numbers and other contact info to check on them. I feel so stupid for not having doing this earlier, there just was so much going on.

MikieO contacted EEUU by phone Monday and posted it on the main thread. He is fine; apparently the only damage was to his toilet. :)

If it works great, but do not assume just because skype is not working that the phone line is down. Try other methods. skype, under the best circumstances may not work for many complex technical reasons. Under the current situation, you really can not determine anything based on skype failing to connect.

If you are trying to reach us at our Chilean land line, skype will most likly fail. Call our U.S. phone number 1-702-990-1762 or email us. Phone calls in to the country are only sometimes getting through. My guess right now in Temuco is that only like 10% of all calls we have placed out of the country work.

Unfortunately that's right, and for some reason on the few occasions Skype has connected to a normal phone the voice path was only in one direction, not both. Skype computer to computer connections seem to work much better.

I got problems at my end as well, Venezuela doesn't need the excuse of an earthquake for it's infrastructure to stop working :-(
You are disturbing me. I am picking mushrooms.

We were able to locate him today! He is alive, although his house completely collapsed. Thank you for your help, everyone. The victim location list reads like a roll-call of our farm group.

We have an extensive network of contacts with hotel owners, other tourism businesses, and tourism associations in Southern Chile, especially in Temuco. We are going to contact all the Hotels and Hostels we can, and ask them to send us all the names of foreigners they currently have staying with them so we can post here. Our priority is to post by region affected, and then we will work our way out to less affected areas more south. It should help take some of the pressure off, and let us focus more of our resources directly on people that are really hard to find or contact.

I will be looking forward to this. Thanks again for all that you are doing!

The owner of hostalcollins in Temuco just contacted us, nothing happened in his Hostal. No passengers were really affected, just one with a minor injury.

In the midst of all this, we are still finding family members for our own staff that have been out of touch. My housekeepers family, one of our attorneys, and some of our consultants just escaped from concepcion after a two day trip back to Santiago. Every time we find someone from our own group, it is a stark reminder of just how early it still is.
