I am happy to report that our list of active unaccounted for people seems to be shrinking and our list of found or otherwise accounted for is growing fast.

Thankfully, we can say that not a single person that we have contacted has been among the injured or dead.

We are still looking for a few people, please keep sending us info on any other people that you know of.

Re: Joop Wisse - LOCATED

Postby yoranw » Mon Mar 01, 2010 4:58 pm

Thank you very much for locating my father and ensuring he is alright! I had been quite worried after hearing of the earthquake, but I am glad some sort of contact has been made. All I am now waiting for is to get in touch with him myself, but I don't doubt this will soon happen.

Once again, thanks for all the help.

SKYPE, don't depend on it under the circumstances

Postby admin » Mon Mar 01, 2010 7:18 pm

I want to tell everyone, do not depend on skype under the circumstances for making international phone calls in to or out of Chile. If it works great, but do not assume just because skype is not working that the phone line is down. Try other methods. skype, under the best circumstances may not work for many complex technical reasons. Under the current situation, you really can not determine anything based on skype failing to connect.

If you are trying to reach us at our Chilean land line, skype will most likly fail. Call our U.S. phone number 1-702-990-1762 or email us. Phone calls in to the country are only sometimes getting through. My guess right now in Temuco is that only like 10% of all calls we have placed out of the country work.

Hello...Looking for a couple of Chilean citizens (aunts and uncles of mine). Names: Martina Canales Orellana and Jorge Canales Orellan both reside in a very small and rural town called Portesuelo. Domingo Canales Orellana resides in Coihueco. Any information about the damage to these towns or about these specific individuals would be greatly appreciated.

Dear all, thank you for this lifeline, I am in Scotland and looking for family in Talcahuano, can anyone update me on the situation there, I have just heard that there is no electricity there, does anyone know how far the sea came in? If the phone lines are working yet, I am calling my family on skype to landlines but it keeps saying there is no network. I am looking for my sister Elena Leal Barrientos and her daughter Evelyn Leal Sandoval and her grand-daughter Florencia. Elena is from Talcahuano. Also, I have heard that there was no warning siren for the incoming Tsunami, does anyone know how long after the first quake the tsunami came in, I want to try and work out if they had enough time to get out before the sea came in. Any news would be greatly appreciated.

Thanking you with all my heart. Sonia Leal.

Since writing this last night I found this article online which answers some of my questions about Talcahuano :-

I have not found my sister yet so if anyone has any news as well as my Godmother Lydia de Palomino who I fear the worst for as her house is right on the waterfront.
