Flying with your dog to and from Europe

Postby pathfinder_05 » Thu Feb 25, 2010 3:09 pm

Howdy, my first bit of useful info on this forum.

My wife an I flew to Europe and back with our Yorkie. With Air France, if the dog and the container weight less than 5 kilos they can accompany you inside the cabin. It was a cool experience.

We got Lucas drugged up and took him on board. Unfortunately we had a hard plastic box, so when he was on our lap it dug in a little and it wouldn't squish under our legs very well.

There is a small extra cost, but you don't pay for a full seat or anything like that.

Get a 'soft' dog case and fly Air France. Highly recommended. Send me a message here if you need more info, the wife planned it all and knows all the paperwork and details etc.

Several airlines will allow pets in cabin flying to Europe. I have yet to find one that allows pets in cabin flying to South America. (from the USA)

Some South American airlines that allow pets as accompanied baggage do not allow pets during high season, and that fact is very well hidden on their webpages. That's something to verify before you book that bargain flight on-line. Just because it says they allow you to take your pet in a prominant place on their website, it does not mean you will be allowed to fly with your pet throughout the entire year.

The soft airline carrier that I like best is made by Samsonite, and it also happens to be the least expensive. You can get it on line from Jeffers Pet Catalog and PetEdge. But again, double check, because I don't think you can take a dog in cabin to South America.
