Carnicerias - beef, lamb, cabrito...

Postby MaryJo » Wed Feb 24, 2010 2:43 pm

Hi all,

Food is apparently my favorite subject, along with wine.

So my next question(s) to you all.. Have any of you come across any good carnicerias here around Santiago?

I've been buying some meat at Jumbo, but sometimes the quality is off. I know that I am spoiled coming down recently from Canada, but we did get our hands on some good Lomo Liso and Filete early on, and now I can't seem to find it. :?

OH and Thanks to the folks who added those early posts with the links on the various Chilean and Argentine cuts of meats, that was great! and super helpful!! :)

Does anyone have a scoop on this? Is there a best time to hit Jumbo or other markets for the best meat?

Has anyone tried the Lamb that is frozen? Has anyone encountered fresh lamb? or goat (cabrito)?

Thanks everyone!

Cheers!
MJ (tired of chicken)

Say, zer0nz, didn't I just see some of ProCarne's products in the freezer section of Jumbo? I was looking at both beef and lamb...but not real sure about the brand name.

how do you find a good carniceria? the same way you find a good restaurant. you try it out. it's a crap shoot. it's always a crap shoot. sometimes you find good prices and good quality, sometimes you don't. wherever you live there are surely three or four carnicerias nearby. go to one and tell them you want some good meat for an asado. next week try another one....and on and on....i found an excellent butcher nearby, and now that he understands i'm a regular customer, i get better prices.....same for the liquor store :)
