Oregon, thanks for your concerns but I wasn't born yesterday and can see through unbalanced characters when I meet one. I will make a rational evaluation on any possible investment and decision for a happy retirement together with my partner.

As far as the "colony" goes, there are many communities like this one around the world and if one is planning to retire, it is only reasonable to look for people with similar values.

Hi Atlantis,

Did you have a chance to visit and if so ... what is your report? I'm visiting this August 2011.

Thanks,
Lefty

Our trip was postponed for one year due to personal matters.

We finally made it to Chile and we started (our 2 and 1/2 months) by visiting the fundo. We stayed there for 12 days which is obviously saying that we had a good time and felt very much amongst friends. The owner is straight forward indeed and most certainly a person that I would have no problems doing business with if we had decided to stay in Chile. We stayed at the guest house where everyone is required to leave their shoes at the foyer and choose from a myriad of house slippers. The result apart from the clean (polished) floors is that everyone feels at ease right away (and go straight to the bar) and a bit like being at 'home'.

There were several options for us to buy and we did a lot of walking around and were encouraged to 'trespass' onto some of the other ranchers' properties to get a better feel for the place. It is very organized and the dozen or so farm hands seem to have things pretty much under control and people who have left - some for raising a family for instance - keep coming back for big events, so they still feel part of the community. There are even two single ladies living there who can call any of the helpers to assist in the more arduous jobs. There are some rules to go by but pretty much every owner can do what ever they like on their piece of land and the place is truly beautiful. There is plenty more information on the web-site so I won't go into details, but the most important thing is that yes, it would be a great opportunity to buy. Unfortunately, we chickened out of moving to Chile for the moment. :?

I hadn't heard of this place and am not personally interested. I had a look at the website and can't really see if you are buying outright or what. As far as I know, the concept of a sort of condominium with home owner's association does not exist for farmland in Chile and was just wondering how the whole thing works. Just curious.

DB, yes you do buy outright but the details would be better addressed to 'chilechinadollz'. They bought there 7 seven years ago.

I was just curious as I hadn't heard of anything like that before.
