Temporary Residency Visa

Postby solareclipse » Fri Jan 15, 2010 12:19 pm

Hi, I currently have a temporary residency visa. I no longer have the job that helped me get it although I have heard from several people that I can renew the visa without the contract. Does anyone know if this is true?

TTT, I am interested in this question as well. I am in the same position. I have a visa "sujeto de contrato" and have terminated that contract. Any options? I am also interested in buying a business or starting a business here in Santiago area.

I am pretty sure that with a visa sujeta a contrato you need to prove you have the contract still. With the residencia temporaria, I am not sure. I need to start doing my research. Feel free to chime in anyone if you know the answer.

You have to file a change of status with immigration to be under just a plain old temporary residency visa.

Is that for the sujeta a contrato or the residencia temporaria? I already have the temporary residency and my question is if I will have to prove I still have the same job/contract or a salary. The extranjeria website says next to nothing on reapply for a new temporary residency visa. I'm planning to call soon. It seems like they encourage you to apply for the permanent residency but I don't think I would qualify for that given the fact that I no longer have the job and can't prove that I am earning the minimum, in pesos at least.

Hey solareclipse, did you ever resolve this question? I'm in a similar situation and am trying to work out whether I should try and renew my temporary residency.

I am about to leave Chile for 2 months, during which my temporary residency will expire, but am planning on returning to Santiago in August for another 2 months, with the intention of then coming back to live in Chile more permanently later in 2011. (I travel a lot - its very complicated :? ) I'm not sure if/how its possible to extend the temporary residency, or if it would be better to come back in August under a tourist visa, and apply for another temp res visa later in 2011.

How did you get on with your situation?

No. I never did get it resolved. I basically decided that in my situation I cannot renew my visa, but no one ever seemed to have a good answer for me. Now my boyfriend and I are considering moving up getting married so that I can get a visa through him.

for the subject to contract work visas you only have 30 days after you terminate your contract (date posted on your finiquito) to either get a new job and apply for a new visa or change to another type of visa. you can leave and come back as a tourist but if your want your two years living here to get residencia definitiva this counts against you.

Make sure you get your finiquito, you need it at some strange times. I was even asked for one from 10 years ago when I was trying to take money out of my AFP.

not sure how this applies to a temporary visa

I actually talked to a lawyer and my visa is fine. It is not subject to contract, but because I haven't been working I can't show a contract or a salary, so I can't renew it or apply for permanent residency. It seems like no one knows anything about the temporary residency visa.

I think everyone is confusing a permission to work with a temporary residency visa here. Two different animals, in a similar species sort of way. I will get back to this when I have a sec with more details.

I've pretty much decided already what I am going to do, but any help or advice you can offer would be appreciated.
