Number One Female Tennis Player

Postby temucomom » Fri Nov 20, 2009 9:58 pm

Debora Echeverria is currently the number one ranked female Junior player in Chile. She is 16 years old. She is the only Junior player selected to play an exhibition game against Maria Sharapova in the Movistar Open in Santiago in Feb 2010. Sponsoring in Chile is an issue but I am not sure exactly why. I would like to hear any comments or suggestions. This match will be seen by many people all over the world so surely there must be some company willing to sponsor her. If there is anyone out there wanting to do any advertising to promote a company in Chile or the world please let me know.

Not sure if you are just looking for discussion here or are trying to find a way of getting some sponsorship funds, but if it is the latter - can I suggest approaching a multi-national company, there are plenty - think lawyers, accountants, mining companies etc. Feb should be a great time of year for them to be donating funds as it is not far from the start of a new financial year, and though I am not well versed in the tax benefits of sponsorship of these things, at the very least a multi-national company would be well used to the idea (not to say that Chilean companies are, I wouldn't know, but it sounds like there has been no luck so far).

Yea, you got to appreciate that one of the main reasons (until recently) that even the Chilean national football team has sucked so bad is because the companies do not want to pay for sponsorship for sports in Chile. Of course now that they are going to the World cup, everyone is on board. For years however the Chilean football team was loosing all of its great players because of the lack of money.

How much? Great question. The objective of my post was to make a connection between the trainer/family and businesses willing to sponsor. When I hear "No one sponsors in Chile" I just don't buy it. My suspicion is lack of organization and networking. To summarize and translate the trainer's introduction letter it says they are looking for sponsorship to allow Debora to travel out of the country and also to compete in Chile and the offer to a business is publicity in every match (national and international) and any interviews she has. Publicity mainly being on her clothing during matches and also publicity in the Temuco academy which is near the bus station and is seen by many people on a daily basis. It also mentions that she has the possibility to go Professional. The exhibition match with Sharapova seems like it will be big thing for Chile. The trainer is asking for a meeting to discuss the possibilities. I spoke with him recently to try to get more specific information such as some kind of travel budget. Hopefully I will have more information soon for anyone interested.

Thanks to everyone for your responses. I think the multi national idea is the way to go for sure. Once things are a bit more organized I will proceed with that.
