Work required in Arica

Postby Morrissey the 23rd » Wed Sep 30, 2009 6:44 pm

I am coming to live in Arica. I am flexible in what employment I can and am willing to do. I am from the UK with extensive experience in call centres; sales; agriculture; security; gardening and I am willing to consider any offers, in any area of any industry.

Any help would be welcome from actual offers to advice pointing the best way for me to work legally and earn as much as possible, preferably doing something I enjoy.

You picked the wrong area for gardening.

But a serious agriculture and gardening answer for long term. See if you can grow pomegranates. They like tough dry climates and there is a healthy market for the juice because it is a health food darling. Chile exports a lot of produce and juice should be easy to ship.

You could probably grow dates, but I suspect that the market for dates is fairly limited and tough to break into.

There are endless comments about "nothing to do" in Arica. Figure out something to do that's entertaining and very cheap (it's a low income area) and open one of those. Is there a boardwalk? Is anyone renting in-line skates?

There is a very small tourist industry which doesn't seem to be particularly well served. Look around. See what is lacking. Better yet, create a tourist niche utilizing what's there. What is there the most of? Figure out how to turn that into a tourist attraction.

There's mining around there. If you know machinery and sales, go and put in an application,
