Am I getting things mixed up? Hubby didn't pay any fees when entering Mendoza while back.

The Argentina reciprocity fee is only charged on incoming international flights into AEP and EZE. It is not charged (yet) for land or water crossings or at other airports (yet).

just want to confirm, that for Argentina and Chile crossings, as a full resident of chile they want you to use your Chilean ID card.

We flew in to Argentina overnight on a friends private plane recently, and I had my U.S. passport rejected when offered on both sides of the boarder. We had to make special arrangements to have customs and immigration meet us at the airport as we were a small 8 seat plane doing an international run to airports that do not get a lot of international traffic.

By the way, Argentina side, watch out for the bribes passing as official paperwork.

The fee is only paid at Ezeiza on the way in to the country, so your husband did not have to pay the fee at Mendoza regardless of what document he was carrying.

I tried to argue that I was a resident of Chile and therefore whould not have to pay the reciprocity fee (I am a US citizen with Definitive Residency in Chile), but they said it was on the basis of citizenship, not residency. And on a second trip into Ezeiza I tried to enter on my carnet, but entering on my passport was going to take less time because I wouldn't have to go over the booth and prove that I'd paid before (in the passport it's a giant sticker, but it doesn't show on the the carnet, of course.)

Here's a snarky little something I wrote about it if you're interested: http://bearshapedsphere.com/2010/03/22/ ... see-again/

Are you sure it's charged at Newberry? (AEP). It has not been, historically, and this is the first I've heard of it.

Yes indeed it is. Check FlyerTalk and TripAdvisor, it started up almost a year ago when AEP started receiving more international flights.

Thanks for the info. I guess with international flighs flying in there (I think Pluna lands there?) it does make sense. If they started charging by water, I bet a significant amount of damage would be done to Uruguay's tourism. I wonder when they'll start charging elsewhere, and for that matter, when Chile will.
