G'Day Aussie Mum. Frank here ex of Newcastle NSW, currently of Recreo Vina del Mar. I bought a Sindelen 123 machine... (best purchase since I arrived) and buy toasted peanuts for 2300 pesos per KILO (do the math) and make my own peanut butter. No sugar, no salt, no preservatives. I make it regularly. I buy wide mouth glass jars from Lider. No worries. Need any info PM me or PM me for Skypename and I'll talk you through it.

Why don't you share your instructions here with another post describing how you make your peanut butter.

Is this what you bought?

That's the machine I use and it is terrific. Simple really, I like CRUNCHY peanut butter so I take a handful of nuts first and put them into the machine...pulse a couple of times just to break them into pieces. Remove and put to one side. Next I fill the container with peanuts and grind to a runny paste. This will take a few minutes and you will have to stop 2 or 3 times to free up dried cake stuck to the sides. Just break it up and start again. Keep going until it is runny (maybe 5 minutes). When it has become semi liquid you will need a bowl. Put all the runny (warm) butter into the bowl and add the desired amount of crumbs which you set aside earlier.... Voila

And be careful with this machine. If you pulse it too long, you can burn the engine (there is no built-in circuit protection that shuts it down to prevent damages to the engine when it is too hot --> I found out the hard way :-) ) The best way to protect it is to use your hand to feel how hot is the machine to determine when to give it some resting. If you smell the burning engine, it is too late :-)

Just to allay any fears.... I make 3 kilos of peanut butter at a time with no problem. Hope I didn't put the hex on my machine. If so I will replace it same day. It's so important to me.

Eco Feria La Reina has organic:
pecan, coconut, macadamia, almond and peanut butter. I bought pecan, it´s delicious, but as expensive as you would imagine a pecan product in Chile (9mil for a jar that will be hidden far from little hands), the other butters were cheaper.

I also found organic palm sugar, jasmine rice and organic rooibos tea

Hey TeP, yes, I think so. Or they may have been right next to each other. They also had organic Buckwheat. Another stall had passionfruit and strawberry plants for sale. It was great. It´s a really small little feria, but with good products. I´ll go again soon. There were a bunch of old guys playing rugby union next door, so entertaining all around!

Yes, just came back last weekend with a jar of macadamia and pecan nuts, Love them!

I wonder if there's anywhere in Santiago where you can find Brazil nuts, anyone?!

Organic macadamia nuts at Ecoferia, Tombi / Soyena?
This may sound eccentric, but our lovebird loves macadamia nuts for a treat. it's one of the very few non bird food items she will eat.
We've been giving it to her for almost a dozen years, and she's not had any since we moved to Stgo. Couldn't find it anywhere. Been to Ecoferia, but somehow missed it.
Thanks so much for sharing this info.

Sorry CS, it´s nut butter as Soyena said. I will keep an eye out for you. If there´s butter, there must be nuts, right?

Where can I buy this wonderful machine? How much does it cost?
We agree to disagree.

Tombi / Soyena: yea, that's what I thought you meant. Thanks so much.
LOL Soyena re: a serving on toast! After what she went through to get here, she deserves it. (SAG was great, though)
To that end, I think she'll enjoy the butter. I know I will.
And I'll ask the nice people who sell it if they perhaps know where to get the whole nut. I'll let you know what I find out.
