Looking to rent short-term

Postby mpayne79 » Sat Aug 29, 2009 4:47 pm

Hi,

I'm brand new to this forum so forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong section as I'm looking to rent not buy, but I have no idea where to start. I'm planning to arrive around Oct. 1. I'm looking for a 1-2 month rental if anyone knows of a studio/1 bedroom and/or housemate situation (although I require my own room). I'll be taking hardcore Spanish language courses in the mornings and working on articles (I'm a freelance journalist) and my other writing in the evenings. I don't require a lot, but I'd love internet in the house, preferably wifi.

If anyone has any leads, I'd really appreciate it. Or if you have a place, please message me ASAP.

Thanks everyone!

My brother in law runs a hotel in Valparaiso near all the colleges, the website is http://www.encumming.cl (no pun). The name of the street is Cumming... isn't that funny??

We have found it difficult here in Antofagasta, only hotels/apartments- not really for short term more week by week.

Where exacty are you looking to locae...I notice your a freelance journalist so im guessing maybe somewhere that you can report local news about???? if your looking at vina it can be tricky depending because many landlords want to rent there places by the day in high season to milk more $$$ out them...Valpo is easier to find somewhere...theres a million new condos for rent...all new and nice and clean. many of them will rent you month to month but if they find someone willing to pay more there quick to boot you out..
let us know your preferences of location and im sure we can all chip in some advice

I'm going to a Spanish school in Providencia and would be looking to rent around there or somewhere close. I plan to get around town by bicycle (which I should probably post about separately, but if anyone knows where to buy a good one that's not too expensive, please let me know!). My price range would be no more than $500 per month. I don't know if that's even realistic. Like I said, I'm brand new to this!

Thank you everyone for your responses so far.

Oh! And one last thing, is it possible to come in the country with just a one-way ticket or do I need proof of further travel? Sorry for all the random questions, but I'm traveling solo and don't know anyone who is Chilean who's been there!

Thanks again, everyone!

A one way ticket is fine but search the forum about it, there are airline employees who don't know that and will give you wrong information.
